Steel stand Skinning

I have bought a steel stand for my tank from Concepts and I am looking for ideas on way people have attached skins to there stand. My stand is powder coated and I don't want to drill into the stand. Other than using magnets to attach a skin to it. What ways did you use? Or is it even okay to drill into the steel stand? This tank is going to be in place for a very long time.

Tagging along. I would love to get ideas also.

I had tabs with 3/16 th's holes welded to the stand before the powder coat. Allows panels to be screwed from the inside out. Check my thread for the pics. Kinda late for you unless you want to re-coat.

Yeah I wish I would have thought about that when I had the tank built. I had seen that after on a friends tank. I think concepts should start putting it on there stands when they build them.

Magnets on the wood panels? That's what I'm planning to do with mine.

Definitely magnets you can get some pretty strong magnets. If you still don't know call concept and talk to matt or denny they have both built stands i believe. Im not sure how they built them though.

Magnets is my plan. I'm wanting to skin mine in carbon fibre:biggrin:

we prefer to use magnets if the wood panels are exposed or finished , although everybody mounts their panels differently. if a customer request to have brackets added to a stand im sure we could do that easily enough , but to keep costs to the customer low its not a standard only a special request at the moment:)

cheers

Get some counter sunk magnets from Lee Valley.

This is how my stand looked

I took it to a cabinet maker and he totally skinned it with out any holes drilled. All the maple is screwed together and the pieces on the corners hide all the counter sunk screws. It's very sturdy
