AI Super Blue Sol vs Radion XR30W

Before anyone asks, I read the entire Radion vs Sol thread last night and it didn't seem to clear things up for me, so I thought I would get some personal opinions from people on the board for my specific setup.

I'm in the midst of shopping for some LED's for my tank and will be purchasing some this weekend. I was wondering if anyone has a recommendation as to which LED unit to buy. Regardless, I will be buying two, whether it be the AI Sol's or the Radion's.

The LED's are for a 75G tank, 48"L x 18"W x 20"H. I've been reading about both units all day and have read multiple pro's and con's based off of multiple peoples opinions.

AI Sol ($399)
Pro: Optics, less "wasted" light spilling out of the tank.
Con: Less overall spectrum coverage when compared to the Radion XR30W's

Radion ($825)
Pro: Full spectrum coverage, wireless, can "communicate" with your MP10wES
Con: Costly, no optics

What does TRT think? Which unit should I go with, and why?

If price is no object go radion.

If it is go with the sol.

There is no answer just go with your gut they are both good.

Hello Mr. Element

See above reply, it's really reduces it down to the most basic and I think correct answer, anything after that will likely based on personal preferance to which the answers are endless. Just for the record I have AI and like them, no regrets.

I have done a bunch of reading on numerous boards about this very thing. It pretty much came down to the Radions being a slightly better alternative, but really not enough to warrant the price difference. If price is not that big of a concern, then go Radion. If you are trying to save some money, definitly go AI.

I think that is the most basic of answers. If you have lots of money, go with the Radion. Unless all your furniture is white and you want things to match. Then go with the white model of SOL.
I don't think a different thread is going to produce any different answers.

Both are great lights, each appealing to slightly different markets. It doesn't sound like you're worried about money, and if color isn't an issue, go with the Radion.

Alright, thanks for the info guys. Will two Radion's suffice in terms of coverage? How high should I mount them above the tank?

Aquattro 03-08-2012 04:13 PM

2 should do just fine. I'd start at 8" and adjust to suit...

2 will be pleanty on that size of tank. I have 2 over my 120gal & there is lots of light

Alright, here's hoping I won't regret this $1600 dollar decision. Any last minute input before I pull the trigger tomorrow?
