lol
Nice to have a lathe, wish I had one
Good thinking on your part

gqlmao 03-28-2014 07:30 PM

That is smart, imagine how many of those you can make from a 8 footer. Sell them back out for what home depot charges and you got a money maker :P

After materials, time, electricity, marketing and distribution costs, etc. it'll only end up costing him two or three dollars each even after he sells them ;)

Who cares what it cost you Tyler ( in the small dollar scheme of things )
You made what you needed and carried on

Great job with the lathe bud

Are you not worried that it's too think and could burst or crack easily?

Vancouver Reefer 03-29-2014 05:36 PM

I miss my old place of work with a full machine shop :(

It only took 2 min to whip up a bespoke part, now it takes me months of online searching.

The lathe is in the "machining room" of a shop I was a foreman at a few years ago, I have full access to the lathe, milling machine, and cnc plasma table

only if he values his own time at $1.00/hour. never cheeper doing them by hand than when they are done automated by bulk.

You can get a home bench top lathe for around $900 from Busy Bee tools. It won't have the tolerances to make engine parts or anything requiring tolerances tighter than +/- 1mil but they are fun to tinker on. You can make boxes, candlesticks, fittings, etc.

Are they that cheap? I priced some out a few years ago and thought they were well over 1000. Ill have to take another look at them, they would be so much fun to play around on.

That is awesome! only 75lbs too which would be nice and easy to move around in the garage. The size is sure deceiving with the white background in the pictures!
