Power is out

I have a power outage at my house right now and I have no back up power. Dummy me. Will a back up battery from Best buy work?

It depends on what you are trying to run and for how long. But just a power head or your circulation pump should be enough as long as you aren't losing or gaining too much heat.

The larger the battery the better. There is math to figure out how long your pump will last with whatever sized battery you buy.

Very least you can buy a battery powered bubbler or three with airstones to help oxygenate the water.

You can also buy a UPS from any computer or electronics store buy the biggest you can afford just remember you are repurposing something for office use to SW use and battery life will drain considerably faster than powering a computer. Recommend that this be reserved for powerheads only.

If your worried about heat loss cover your tank in a couple of blankets to retain heat longer

And of course the biggie a generator

Go get a power inverter for your car---> run a cord from car to tank ----> plug in return pump and 1 heater , start the car periodically to not drain battery all u will need is gas then

Buy a bunch of hamsters or rats and put them on wheels connected, to a generator, connected to a car battery then to a converter.

Thanks for the replys. Our power was out for 8 hours. I did go to Best buy to buy a back up battery. They of course forgot to tell me that it had to be charged up before I could use it, even though I told them I had a power outage. It crossed my mind that it might not work but I thought they would have told me. I was able to borrow a generator from a neighbour so I was very lucky. Also lucky as I was about to walk out the door for dinner for the evening. I now have a backup battery and we are thinking of getting a generator too. Didn't lose anything so I was fortunate.
