New bucket 'o salt - dKH high?
First time I've ever checked the dKH of a brand new bucket of salt, so I don't know what it generally is. The fresh saltwater seemed a bit slimey on top, hence the test. (Container was clean w/ newly made RO/DI water) Been aerating about 18 hrs.
It's 13 dKH (Salifert), which I know is not *that* high, but I run my tank at 10. Will doing a 10% waterchange w/ this new saltwater be harmful? ~Tamara |
should be fine
if the total water changed is only 10%, then the extra 3 dkh will be shared by the remaining 90% of the water which will be an increase of around .033% or something like that.

Thank you!

Do you mind telling us which brand of salt you're using?

I feel rather silly for worrying about the higher dKH - forgot it was only a 10% W/C for the SW tank. Must have been confused with the Koi tank (usually do 50% for those messy boys...) Just out of curiosity, what is the usual dKH of freshly mixed SW? Thanks for the replies. ~Tamara |
