Bubble Magnus Curve 9 Skimmer Recommendations ?

I need to upgrade my skimmer and was wondering if anyone who is currently using a Curve 9 will be willing to share their thoughts about how they like their curve 9 ?

I currently have a under-rated skimmer on my set-up that I have to up-grade soon or deal with the problems that can come with not having a proper skimmer

I have a heavy stocked set-up with about 250 gallons of water (180 gallon tank with 70 gallons of water in a 100 gallon sump).

How well does the curve 9 really work and how much noise does it make ?

Good thread, I'm looking at the 9 right now for my 180.

I have no input for you about the Curve you're looking at, but a couple things I was taught about skimmers;
You've covered the tank capacity as many skimmers under $500 are over-rated, so cut the #s in half
The other thing that I learned, and I can't find any info online about the 9, is what kind of air intake capability does it have ?
Anything less than 500l/hr is a waste of money

Good luck

Air draws:
SP-1000 (curve 5 pump): 300 L/H
SP-2000 (curve 7 pump): 520 L/H
SP-4000 (curve 9 pump): 900 L/H

And yap skimmers are most of the time overrate. About half to the lowest number in the rating is about right.

Thanks guys

The skimmer is rated for 240 to 400 gallons (which my set-up is at the minimum of that scale), and it is rated for 900L/hr air intake based on the on-line info that I found.

By all accounts, assuming the manufacture over rates their product, it should still be at least close to working on a heavy stocked 180 gallon tank.

But having said that, I have always found first hand experience to trump the best of theories

I have read through Lockrookies thread, I have have even seen his tank in person (outstanding tank BTW). Just looking to get as much input as I can.

Thanks again guys

Keep it coming !!!
