How Many Tanks are you currently running?

Curious as to how many people here have more than one tank going? Not sure how to make the poll with various options, sizes, one or more sump systems, total systems etc. So will keep it to the number of tanks only.
Feel free to comment on what you have and how you keep things under running.

The Grizz 03-04-2013 09:09 PM

3 for me ATM!!

kien 03-04-2013 09:10 PM

I am currently only running one tank, but in the past I have run at most two. I once had a 120g "frag" tank in the basement. That one failed miserably because I just wasn't down stairs enough to maintain it. Nor did I want to go downstairs to maintain it.

Then I got this bright idea to plumb a second ("FOWLR") tank to my main 150g reef. This worked out alright because everything was plumbed into one sump which meant that I only needed to do one water change, change one skimmer, media reactors, etc. Ultimately this tank didn't work out for me either because I had built it way too tall. The tank was only 18" front to back so, in an effort to capture more water volume I made it super tall at 28" high! That was a huge mistake because every time I needed to get into the tank my shoulder was completely submerged and I could still barely reach the bottom of the tank. Stupid t-rex arms.. So now I'm down to just the one main 150g mixed reef but have been mulling the idea of setting up a FOWLR in the basement. I'm hoping that someone can talk some sense into me though..

Hi, I have 10, is that too much? Regards Ken

Coralgurl 03-05-2013 01:31 AM

So those with with multliple tanks, do you focus on 1 and get it where you want then start another or do they just happen??

I've got 2, 55 and 180, but the 55 was supposed to get shut down when I upgraded. Didn't have the heart to do it, now both look half stocked and haven't focused on one more than the other. Both will get there eventually....

jorjef 03-05-2013 01:38 AM

Two, one 77 gallon display and a 44 gallon which is my live rock overflow/ coral bone yard/ penalty box for fish that don't listen.

Oilers 03-05-2013 01:39 AM

I am currently running two tanks, a 150G tank and a 28G Nanocube.

fishoholic 03-05-2013 02:32 AM

Where is the "Way to f-ing many" option  It might not be so bad if they were all smaller tanks but multiple big ones is a PITA.

Smallest to biggest all saltwater

2.5g nano
34g cube
80g P.O.S.
230g reef
230g folwr
260g reef (Doug's)

I've never focused more on one or the other, I go through phases with them. Although for the most part now they are fully stocked. I have multiples due to my love of all types of fish. Unfortunately many of them can't be kept together, which for me, has resulted in different tanks to house them in. I have been debating shutting some down and downsizing (to save some money) but it would be very difficult to choose which fish to keep and which to sell as I like them all.

noirsphynx 03-05-2013 03:23 AM

I run a 106g and one 20g QT tank. I'll be setting up a 20g frag tank soon.

Azzkr 03-05-2013 03:38 AM

I have a 220gal Reef
20 G Q Tank
65 gal FW tank for discus

Start one, get it some what the way I want it. Start another, get it some what where I want it, then go back to the first one & completely re build it & get it some what where I want it. Then start another one get it some what where I want it, go back to the 2nd one & re build it................and so on and so on.....it's a visious cycle that I hope to break with the 300 build.

kien 03-05-2013 04:10 AM

Sounds cool, except that no one will see the one piece if it's in wall?

Callibaetis 03-05-2013 04:52 PM

Currently have a 20g with 2 occ clowns, purple dottyback, fire shrimp, peppermint shrimp, a couple hermits and about 10 snails. Currently have a 75 gal cycling and anxiously awaiting fish. Wife has stopped me at 2 tanks. So she thinks.

lockrookie 03-05-2013 05:17 PM

A 180g with 50g sump

A a 50g with a 33 g sump

And soon a frag/qt tank of uncertain gallons still in planning stage

JmeJReefer 03-05-2013 05:20 PM

2 tanks. A 9gal DIY cube (12x12x15) SW. And a 3 gallon extra long diy SW tank. (20x6x6). I have a wife that maintains a strict budget!! So everything is small, low wattage (LEDs, power conditioners ei.north American power is "dirty" so an evened out power source keeps equipment lasting longer. Very simple setups!)

Reef_Geek 03-05-2013 06:44 PM

at one point, I had 14 personal tanks at home. But that was in college--I was experimenting with stuff. (one experiment, I even tried a FW planted tank with cat litter for clay). Now I only have 3 running and 1 more empty... contemplating...

RandomTabby 03-05-2013 08:59 PM

2 displays plus a quarantine tank :)

swill 03-05-2013 09:14 PM

I voted that I have 4 but then remembered that I technically have 6. I have a 180 Gallon reef, 300 Gallon FOWLR, 40 gallon Reef, 12 gallon Seahorse tank, 10 gallon quarantine tank and 3 gallon goldfish bowl!

somewherebeyondthesea 03-07-2013 11:11 PM

2 12 G fluval Edges
1 5 G fluval spec

steve fedyk 03-08-2013 01:10 AM

120 G reef
45 G reef
29 G soon to be planted fresh water

Nano 03-08-2013 01:13 AM

0 tanks for me!

hooper 03-09-2013 04:17 AM

cutting down now from 3 to 1........

Delphinus 03-09-2013 05:44 AM

2 salt (1 reef 1 fowlr). Technically 3 if you count the FW.

In the past (primarily before kids) I think at one point I had 5 or 6 full blown reefs going. No way no how post-kids now!
