Favorite Build Threads
What are your favorite build threads that you have read through? Not just Canreef but anywhere! I love going through build threads and was hoping to get a few really good recommendations!

Peter's Tank on RC http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1811725
Chingchai's Tank on RC http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...0#post15564660 CyclistMT's Plywood 300 http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=2022040 Untamed's 400 on Canreef You've probably seen them all, but if not definitely check them out. The first 2 are very extensive 2 part threads. Untamed's is my favorite here and my dream tank. |

Untamed as well. Kien's is a great read too.
There are more but can remember off the top of my head. |
search Lobsterboys tank build here on canreef. He had one of the most beautiful tanks i had ever seen. Its a shame he's out of the game
His tank went through many stages. here is what it ended at http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/sho...terboy&page=75 |
My votes go to Delphius, Fishytime & lastlight, all great internet authors who have interesting opinions.
Doug doesn't post all that often now-a-days though . |
My favourite, although very short, was saltwaterseahorses AKA littlereefer6. One of the most entertaining threads ever!

Peter's is nice but the money turns me off for some reason.(Specifically peters thread...if it is nineball were are talking about) Not to take away from its spectacular nature i prefer chings Ching's smaller tanks. David Saxby and Steve Weast have/had? great tanks as well. I do like Leonardo's various tanks on reef central. He strikes me as a marine artist. http://www.leonardosreef.com/2011/02/formosa-forest/ http://www.leonardosreef.com/2011/02/leonardos-lagoon/ http://www.leonardosreef.com/2012/07/apogon-reef/ The current Tank of the month on canreef is quite spectacular. http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=91591 I like the Grizz's long tank as well. My dream dimensions :) http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/sho...hlight=shallow Whiston's tank on canreef - He nailed the rockwork I think...it is just so lovely in my opinion. http://www.canreef.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=93625 There are so many more....I just like a reef that works...many smaller tanks i think actually look better than the 800 gallon + monsters. |
I personally haven't seen any of the posted tanks other than the ones on canreef. But I will say for me that I am inspired by everyone's tanks and every thread I skim over as I have no life and read old and new as they come about.
Compared to some of you whom have been passionate in the hobby for 10 plus years and more, i have so much to learn. I can't even keep names straight on the corals I keep. So for me I don't have one favourite. I view all as awe inspiring. And can only hope one day I can succeed as well as most of you have. But now I have to log onto reef entrails slow server and check these links out :) |

Yup - my fav |
I've always preferred TOTM articles over build threads. Builds generally just get too cluttered with useless posts especially on RC, it becomes too laborious to find any real information in them. The articles on the other hand are so nice and precise, it only takes a few minutes to learn nearly everything there is about a great looking tank. That being said my favourite has always been Chris Ward's tank from October 2006 http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-10/totm/index.php He was one of the few to adopt the less is more approach and just let his coral grow huge (only 28 in a 273gal tank). Which to me is far more impressive than so many of these other tanks which have stuffed every square inch of their tank with name brand frags.

This is not a build thread but a summary from many people, and since I love SPS, it's my favorite place to go to drool.

Been through this thread many times. Leads to a bunch of sweet builds though most are in Italian:

Don't even get me started on the fact that he built that massive tank only 3 feet wide lol. :drinking: |

Guys, I've seen this tank in person and I've spent time with Peter and Shawn at MACNA...he really does love the hobby. He has money, there is no doubt and he has hired help to work on the tank, but he tries to be as involved as he can in taking care of the tank as well.
If you look at it another way, I love the show Tanked just because it gets my family (who enjoy it too) to be more appreciative of my hobby. The sheer number of U-tube viewings on Peters tank have probably done a lot for getting people excited about the hobby we love so much. Just my thoughts but seeing that tank makes you forget where you are for as long as you are in front of it. |
I certainly don't question his involvement I just don't like the vibe of self-importance I get when I read his thread. Maybe it's my flawed perception but I enjoy Ching Chai's build much more. To me at least, his build completely lacks that feeling.

Sucks, but he will show publicly how he over comes this. So this type of education is also good for the hobby. R. |

I've seen many big tank threads this is the only one I got that vibe from...I dunno. I've met Peter as well...he is sure nice, but that doesn't change the vibe some get from the thread :( |
Here's something a little different!
http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/s...d.php?t=557219 It's a genuine double drop-down. No box within a box foolery here  |
