I have a suspicion that i just introduced a couple manjano anenomes to my tank. Can someone please help with the ID?
Thanks! |

|
looks like the nasty buggers to me
|
Too Bad....
they are quite pretty but i really don't want a tank full of them..... do they take over aggressively? is that why they are so despised? |
Looks like apitaisa to me.

Looks like one of the more unusual species of Aiptasia to me. Was it sold to you as Rock or Trumpet Anemone?
|
strawberry anemone....
but when i looked it up at home, didn't really match. |
Strawberry Anemones are temperate, you could go find them in the tide pools. :D

they dont look like strawberry nems. I'd guess your LFS didnt have a clue what it was so they slapped a price on it anyways. IMO, if you dont know what it is, you probably shouldnt buy/sell it. hope they turn out to not be to much of a pest!
|
and I'd take that into your LFS and give them a piece of your mind.

lesson learned.....

You can tell just by the way they are already spreading they are bad. +1 on aptasia
|
The suspects have been apprehended!!
Don't want to throw the guys under the bus quite yet... Suffice to say, I take full responsibility for buying something that i didn't research..... |
But any respectable fish store should know what they are selling and have the decency to NOT sell stuff like this to its customers.
Would at least be nice to know the name of the store in question so others in the area (especially beginners like myself) can be cautious when we go into this store. |
A few years back I bought a beautiful aptasia that I thought it was a baby anemone . I kept feeding it until it multiplied into a dozen just in a week. Their color was so beautiful that I felt pity for them. My hand was shaking like I got Parkinson disease or something (and my heart sunk) when I squirted and killed them with boiled water.

luckily they were new to the tank so they peeled off pretty easily....
thanks for the help and discussion this forum is really great and I'm so glad i don't have to go it alone!! thanks again folks!!! |
They are kind of cute. Maybe put them in a sump?
They are so despised because they pop all over the place and they sting corals. Quote:

I wouldnt put them in the sump, what stopping them from making there way into the DT?

It's true it's a risk as when they are tiny and float in the water they can get anywhere.
