couldn't make it through season 1

lockrookie 03-03-2012 11:56 PM

i wont tune in either i wasn't impressed on how they stocked the tanks but did like the builds

bignose 03-04-2012 03:44 AM

Tanked is crap I wouldn't be bothered to watched another episode.

tim the toolman 03-04-2012 04:36 AM

I would like to know the survival rate of the livestock they jam into the tanks. Especially since they seem to stock them the day they build them. I will not watch again.

Veng68 03-04-2012 05:13 AM

I herd the tank they set up for Serendipity 3 in Las Vegas was only set up for a day or 2.

Cheers,
Vic

It's like OCC for fish tanks. If you like choppers and knew the technical pieces behind them, the show would be a joke with what they say. Same thing with tanked, to most people they build pretty aquariums, but to people who know tanks, we say "WTF? synthetic rock?","that's too many tang's","Cartridge filter on a 500gallon?","lol, that lion is going to eat all those small fish", etc :P

Its just entertainment for a nontechie audience....almost all tanks are fowlr with fake corals. That telephone booth tanks was on ebay a few months later. Who would fo in to clean such a thing.

Of course some of the things they did I don't agree with, but for entertainment value it was ok. Some of the tank designs were cool.

I actually got to sit and chat with Brett at MACNA as well as the supplier they buy all their fish from and they go through a lot to pre-prepare the livestock and the water for the show. They said they got a lot of haters from the aquarium side of things, so much so that they were asking the producers to show more of what the background preparation was during the episode so that people could see what was involved.
They not only build tanks but do tank maintenance so I doubt that letting everything die afterwards would be in their best interests.

+1.....you dont get to be the largest tank manufacturing company in the world by being a bunch of hacks that kill fish......the show is edited in a way that makes the show entertaining, not educational.......season 2 is supposed to get a little more into the technical side of things....

lockrookie 03-04-2012 04:39 PM

thats all good and all but there wasone episode that they filledthe tank right off the tap but it was a hot water tap so they had the casino bring ice to cool the water down so the fish wouldnt die when put in. that in itself said to me that they where mixing the salt in the tank and dumping fish in... they may have the fish prepeared for such a thing but. it still seems wrong to me. aparently these guys installed a 600g cylinder tank here in regina the member;s tank is on sask reef i can find a pic possibly

lockrookie 03-04-2012 04:50 PM

the guys from tanked. installed this in east regina. i personally havent seen this tank in person but know of its existence from tim t and another reefer. it was quite the project. one day i hope to see this tank in person. i can ay this tank cycled a long time before any fish where introduced

Im looking forward to the new season, I enjoy it. Take everything with a grain of salt, but enjoy the fact that we have a show we can turn on with our common interest displayed.... I dont see any other salt water aquarium shows out there....

it wasn't the instant tanks or plastic corals that got me, it was the annoying characters and their interactions. If I was to try the series again, would have to be with the volume off.

blacknife 03-04-2012 11:22 PM

I have only seen the pilot. Is it worth finding a whole season torrent of?

Funny you should say that since (for me) the characters and their interactions is what made me like the show, I thought they were funny.
