it is , it will go away after some time , you can brush it off if it bothers you but it will come back, usually dissappears after a couple of weeks:) |
Alright... Do u know what causes it? What would I use to brush it off?

Use your clean tooth brush on it before and after you brush:biggrin::biggrin: |
Lol alright cool... It must just be mature rock cause my tank is only a week old... Bought the rock and was also given 5 corals :) he was gunna throw them out cause he was movin state side and couldnt take them
And thank u very much I forgot to say thanks
It's spreading all over my sand... Cleaned up the sand a little bit but I need to get gloves to take out the rock and scrub it and clean the sad fully almost feel like I need to do a big water change but i also feel I shouldnt
its part of hte cycle. you'll notice it comes back worse each time you remove it. get some nerite/astrea/tronchus snails and let them pick away at it. it will go away on its own in a month. be patient.
How do I clean it every day when I do water changes every week? Turkey Baster it off?
Will the algae die off after the cycle?
If your tank is still cycling then water changes will only prolong the cycle. The diatoms will get worse before it gets better. So just sit back and let the bacteria do it's job. Cleaning the rock will also prolong this because you will likely kill the beneficial bacteria while doing this.
you can turkey baster it off and let it flow our overflow (use a filter sock to catch the bastards.)
my tank is going through its THIRD diatom bloom since starting up 6 months ago. Its inevitable and i have 0 nitrates/phosphates/ammonia, etc. Dont bother with water changes, i find it just feeds them and they grow way faster. Must be trace silicates or something in the water change water. what i also do is vacuum them out but put the output of the vacuum into my filter sock in my sump so the water is just recycled. then i swap out the filter socks. Unfortunately they are usually back the next day, lol. |
Alright... So no water changes for the first month?... Just so u know when I bought my rock I was given 5 corals will they be affected... If they die in my tank it's better than being thrown in the garbarge
The guy was moving to that states and couldn't sell them and couldn't take them |
With coral in the tank the first priority is to keep the water quality it up - including water changes. If your ammonia, nitrite and nitrates are good then consider postponing water changes provided the water quality stays good.
Ok... Ya I would like to keep them.. Hey seem happy with the exception of the fact that I have a fireworms and they were pickin on my extra happy torch... He sits around 3" tentacles he's my favorite
