what is wrong with people these days....who bases business on scamming people??
 

time to vent........


about 3 weeks ago i started work for a guy who is opening up a tile and stone store, after an interview he hired me right there on the spot. his store is not open but e is already doing jobs....great i though since ive been off for 2 weeks.....


he tells me he will get me to do his jobs and give me shop hours.


ive put in 70 hrs at his shop, did a tile job for a lady who absolutely loved it (tile is a family business and ive done it my whole life) .


i also re done his mosque , 2 full washrooms decked right out and looks amazing......since this was the guys church i donated the work and said to my self this is my christmas good deed.....


after the mosque a friend of his called him and said he had hired a renovator to do his house its a pretty big job left in a bad mess so my boss said no worries ill have my guys take care of it...


me and another guy went there and got to work on his house, yesterday the boss says hes pulling out simply because he hasnt got the time to finish it he has better jobs he wants to do, this poor guy is a church guy who works with the church and has a wife and 5 young kids and my boss wants to pull out half way through it....the idea of us even going there was to help someone he goes to church with out because he got scammed....


so when he says this to me yesterday i say you cant be serious how can you just pull out and leave the guys house like this without finishing you made a promise...

anyways the ending is im finishing the guys house for free so the poor guy doesnt get screwed, my boss has already been paid up front and i no longer work for that shady guy....


he owes me over 3000 in wages and ive been calling all last night...no answer...texts....no answer.....started calling again at 5 this morning ....no answer


im a smart person and i never do anything without getting it in writing so i have the quote/invoice signed by him, about 350 pics since the day i started work, i have the other worker as a witness, yesterday i got clarance to turn on his camera when i gave the signal when we started talking about money owed and he agreed to it clarance has it on video with sound with me and him in the pic but the boss doesnt know that yet, and i have the home owner who said he would gladly go to court on my behalf if he doesnt pay me what ive simply earned which is my wages.....


if this little pudgey man burns me or ripps me off for no reason ill take him to court over it and i have plenty of proof besides including e mails, and other witnesses at the mosque who can testify i worked for him.

when i gave him my invoice and hours yesterday morning i made him sign it his copy and mine so i doubt theres any way he can get out of it.
ich is where he advertises) and ill follow everyone of his ads with a ad of my own saying what type of business he is running.

previous to me starting work three clients are holding pay from him of about 5-6 thousand saying he does bad business isnt qualified ,didnt get what they bought....

since i started with him ive had 3 clients the lady and the mosque(which both are very happy and loved the job i had done) and the third is this guy im helping out now so he doesnt get screwed over.


pretty ****ed here now today but ill give him untill friday to write me a cheque or at least answer my calls if not ill go down and file papers agaist him, wouldnt look good with him just starting a business

Theres some real Beauties out there, I hope you get your money without having to go through a bunch of hoops. Sounds like you should try and work for yourself. Sounds like you would get some good word of mouth.

ive worked for my self forever now lol but where im new to calgary i just dont feel like doing it on my own at the moment will soon but prob for the next while id just like to work a stress free month with no wondering where the next job is to or pricing this and that to make a buck lol theres a plumber at the church job i did for them hes doing all their sinks and toilets and he also loved the work i did there its flawless and hes doing a reno in a mall somewhere and knows the guy so hes gonna try to hook me up there, would be a big gig for just me but would pay good so ill keep the old fingers crossed for that lol but i also get lots of calls from complanys but the problem is they are all small companys 1 guy or 2 guys out of work truch offers so im not really interested in those types of business i find companys with lots of guys or small crews do things more professional and have a better guarantee of getting paid( lesson learned...always stick to what you know lol)


so for now im gonna spend the next 2 days helping the poor fella out as its not his fault the guys a crook and i dont know him only 3 weeks so its not my fault either but i offered to finish his place for him as the other guy has him stressed out :):) my second good deed for christmas so im owed by somebody somewhere for something good in my stcking this year or watch out lol :):):)

make sure the check you get is certified-same thing happened to me to the tune of $10000.unfortunately this is the way some new immigrants do business.now i always sign a contract and get it notarized

I got a decent amount of tile I need installed in my basement, usually just do it myself but would consider hiring someone this time around. If interested PM me, I won't scam you :wink:.

Good thing that you have been careful and kept all invoices, receipts, promises on file.
Nowadays, it's pretty standard not to take anyone's word for granted, which is also sad.
Used to be that your word is your bond, and a hand shake means something.

I would start your own company, as in an actual company. sounds like you have 4 or more real good references right now, you got the photos to put together a porfollio. you can hire and train a helper so he to does it the right way and when you are comfterable with him you can make him a lead and hire two new helpers and so on and soon you will be running your own crews. I find a lot of people will pay a little more to make sure the job is done right, especialy in these days when there are so many crooks out there.

Same thing happened to me $4700 because the home owner didnt agree with the bill. alwasy sign contracts if possible. I place a building lean on the house, and 2 years went but until the lean expired, she said she would give me $1000... No way was I settling for that, long story short with the lean expired and her now off the hook, the only thing to do was file a claim, and wait another 6 months- a year to even get into court to settle it, plus head ache from dealing with it, lost hours at work, lawyer fees etc.. What ever Karma is a bitch and she'll get what she deserves at some point. You ex boss will too, what goes around comes around. it still sucks that it happens but thats just how greedy some people are. thats why its good that there are still the few of us that are honest people. thats a value seldom come by now a days.

so heres the update hortly after i wrote this he sent me a e mail and said to come by and he will pay me so i thought great once i got there and waited for 3 hrs he finally showed up he was in a horrible mood and basically said his business is gone to **** and hes not paying anything for anything anymore....


sooooo.....


ive talked to employment standards after a lengthly conversation of what happened ive been advised to take him to court as they feel like i can easily proove my case.

today i went down to the colurt house and got the papers ill fill them out tonight i explained my case showed them what i have they also feel like its worth my time there will be some colurt fees but he will have to pay those ill have to cover my own fees for lost time and witnesses.


i have about 300 photos, e mail's ,witnesses from co workers and witness from his clients....and even text messages and video(not sure if i can use those or not lol) the emails,witnesses testimonies and pictures are all good documents that will help me.

once i file the papers he has 21 days to either pay me or prepare for his case....i have a friend who is a lawyer in calgary and he is going to help me once hes back in town next week.

the bill is for 3500 and around 3000 for the other worker.


ive done nothing wrong i simply accepted a by the hour job in which i showed up and did work everyday and did great work at that so he has no reason what so ever to not pay me his only excuse is hes re considering opening a business because of the finances it has.....which has nothing to do with me if his company isnt making money then he should pay his employees and lay them off as such not just keep their pay......still a crappy day as it will now be weeks before i even know whats happening.

3500 for 3 weeks worth of hours where i work 10-16 hr days is a steal of a deal considering i usually make 1300-1600 a week so this is one of the reasons im so mad its not like i over priced or anything like that he knew what he was getting into when he hired employees....if you cant afford to pay your workers then some serious reconsideration on what your doing is in order....just plain bad business:)



the thing that bugs me the most is he left this poor guys house in a complete mess he tore out everything and then asked me to fix it for him, not 3 days into it he decides he would rather deal with the court and just pull out leaving this poor man and wife with five young children with a hose tore apart...



for those of you who sent pms regarding jobs or stuff needed done for the next couple of days ive donated my time to helping this guy get his place done because i cant have that on my consious even though im kinda protecting him in a way....im also trying to convince the home owner to take him to colurt but hes so stressed he just wants to get his house back together...


once done there ill see where im too this work thing has got me very stressed right now and i thought i was taking the less stressfull way out by accepting a job by the hour from a "legit company" geesh some people by:):) thanks guys:):0

andddd haha sorry guys feel like venting today but ive been in calgary for about three months and this is the third company thats scredwed me over not as bad as this but the first paid my way up i did 15 condos for him in 2 weeks ranging about 300-400 sq ft each easily a 1000 worth of abour i charged out at 25 hr so he pretty much got each unit done for 250 and pocketed the rest when it came ime to pay me the bill was almost 4000 at 4 o clock i gave him my hours and at 6 he had a check for 2grand he said he would owe me the rest next month in an effort to not get scammed i had to quit or be owed twice as much


the second guy was very nice and were still friends we did some amazing houses on marda loop some of the most high end jobs ive done but unffortunately he has no clients so were off between jobs for a week or more


and the third is this guy and well we know how this turend out lol better screening preocess for employers is my new goal untill i decide to work on my own again:):)
