Fixture zapped me
Today, when I put my hand in water and touching my LED fixture at the time time. The fixture zapped me. Anyone know why? Thanks
|
Probably a short somewhere in the tank and the fixture grounded you. Same thing happened to me a while back after adding an old power head. Put my hand in, elbow touched my reflector and zap!!
|
Make sure the fixture is plugged into a three pronged cord or outlet.

Could be static electricity from walking across the room. Is your LED fixture grounded? I know I have to separately ground each of my individual T5HO retrofit reflectors to keep from getting a tingle when I touch them & the water at the same time. Not unusual for the water and a hanging fixture to be at slightly different voltage potentials in reference to ground. Fluorescent ballasts tend to induce voltage into surrounding objects, but with your LED fixture that shouldn't be an issue.
In any case, it may warrant further investigation. Are you on a GFCI with your equipment? |
Glad your okay
Did it make the voices disappear? :) |

I got that a few times and finally realized I have a ton of salt water with a ton of electricity in and around it... not the best combo. I went and got a grounding probe pretty quick after that. I suspect it is the Rio powerhead on my skimmer putting out a stray voltage. BE CAREFUL!!!

Same thing was happening to me. Measure voltage between the water and ground a the reading was about 32 volts. I install a grounding probe now the reading is around 1-2 volts. No more zaps.

So a grounding probe will work?
I have nothing in the DT except one Vortech. Everything is on GFCI and nothing trips. |

Oh, and don't touch your reflector when you are in the tank  Steve |

Try some of the things others have mentioned! Cheers, Chris |
