Definately looking forward to seeing this shipment. All the literature shows this to be a very well thought out food with a ton of research going into its development.
We'll be feeding our store fish on this food to get a first hand experience. |
Still not in as of today....too bad :(
|
It shipped today - large order - its coming from Ontario by Fedex they state 4 days so give a days grace should be there by Friday/Monday at worst.

New Era Foods have arrived!
Progressive Reef is pleased to announce that New Era foods have just arrived. Come in for your free sample! This extensive food line is worth a look-a complete alternative to frozen foods! Marine Flakes, Marine Liposome spray, Marine Pellet, Grazing diet-discs, Algal pellets, Herbivour flakes, Aegis marine flakes type 1&2. Aegis liposome spray. We will be starting our fish here at the store on it today, stop by and see how the fish react. I am really interested in seeing the grazing diet-discs and how the fish take to it. I'd say this the first food related unique idea i've seen in a while.

Picked up some samples yesterday. No pellet samples, but Ronnie was kind enough to make some up. The marine pellets were gone in seconds, fish loved it. The algae pellets were rejected by the non vegetarians, but most of the tangs gobbled it up. Overall, the fish like it so far. I'll try flakes today, although I'm not a big flake fan.
The algae discs look interesting, just not sure how to feed it yet. If I toss it in the tank, I'll get a sand storm from the feeding frenzy on the bottom. |
We hear a few people leary of flake, so this is what I advise
First try it! :) Take one flake of marine flake and one of herbivore Crunch up together on a dish Turn off power heads Take pinch and place finger under water surface Lets hope you dont have any sharks in there! My fish rip at my fingers trying to get at it. Flake offers a more natural feeding regime as it floats about under water like live food, encouraging fish to chase after it, pellet is a more lazy mans food in my oppinion try it and post your thoughts ;) |
I will post up a feeding frenzy video later

Agreed. Pellets are condensed and don't fragment off into the filter systems. I can see the fish get them all, then add a few more. And I don't power off pumps, so the fish get to chase their food just fine :)
|
I suspect you are feeding way too much then with your power heads on - any that gets into rocks, the shrimps and other inverts will soon clear up. I will upload two videos shortly.

This stuff has a flake version? Nuts, I'll have to go look for that, I missed it. I picked up the two versions of pellets and it has been a hit, although I too noticed that my non-vegetarian butterflies and trigger didn't care hugely for the algae based ones when I fed them that one by accident a night or two ago. But man the tangs and angels love both kinds.
I still prefer to use some flakes as I have a number of smaller fish that the pellets are too large for. Agree that pellets in autofeeders work best but once a day I like to add a small pinch of flake for the smaller guys. |
the two vids I am about to upload to youtube will change the unconverted ;)

Here is part 1 of the New Era Aquaculture Video showing the feeding frenzy in my system when introducing Flake following the Aegis system diet.
The system involves 4 weeks regular feeding of Marine Flake (plus Herbivore flake if you have herb fish) 2 weeks after of Aeis I 2 weeks after of Aegis II Of course you dont have to follow this feeding plan and can just feed any of the feed range as you wish but UK research at a leading university proved that the fish became stronger, more immune tolerant and had a faster growth rate with improved colouration, notably in Tangs. Here is part I, Part II to fiollow this evening http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhOS1DzhDeo |
I just watched this video of the New Era Foods process. Very interesting and informative. Have a look. Cheers Ronnie

Any chance pellets .5mm or smaller will be developed? I have a bunch of plantivors that I would like to feed several times a day and would love to be able to stuff my auto feeder with pellets this size. I am currently using NLS grow formula (.5mm) which is a perfect size, but would like to test out New Era Marine formula.
|
Hi
1.5mm is the standard but the pellet is really soft as it is not baked hard, so the pellet crumbles in your fingers, so you can easily get to any size you choose to suit your needs. Pick up a sample from progressive Reef. |
So here is part 2 of the feeding frenzy video.
What I would like to highlight here is the way flake acts in a lot of ways to fish like live food, they chase it around very actively and this creates a huge frenzy, just look at my tang he acts as if it was his first meal for weeks, but this was a second feed within 2 minutes of the first video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_2u3vWGgYo |
