My 67g Reef build

Hi all.

After a long summer I have cleaned house and tore down a few tanks. All that I have left set up is my 65g and my 30g breeder. Which is plumbed together. Well this project will reflect of building a 2 sided viewing tank which i just picked up from another reef member and tear down the last 2 tanks and combine them into the new tank.

I will post equipment and other stuff I am going to have to get new or used from fellow reefers.

Keep checking in for updated and feel free to drop some comments or criticism http://www.aquariumpros.ca/forums/im...ihi%5B1%5D.gif

Dimensions are 72x18x12 = 67g Starphire Closed loop system.

Pump I am going to use for the closed loop is a Blue Line T4 Velocity Series external pump. I have read they are super quiet but run a little hot.

benzzz 01-14-2011 12:05 AM

I dug out my Vertex IN180 and cleaned it up for this tank. My 65 & 30 which are plumbed together does not have a mechanical skimmer in the Sump . I have approx 300 lbs of live rock which is filtering this system but unless I run 2 sumps under this new tank to house that much LR I may have to get rid of some.

Hopefully I will have the top built soon.

I am looking at 3- HQI Sunlight Supply Reef Optix 150 watt pendants to go over top of this baby.

benzzz 01-14-2011 12:06 AM

Top of the stand is 46" off the floor but the tank is only 12" high so 58" to top of tank. I think it will be at a nice level when sitting on a bar stool leaning on an oak ledge to hold your favorite beverage

benzzz 01-14-2011 12:07 AM

So........ I got the closed loop all plumbed in. I am going to change the way it was setup from the dump and return on the same end. I am going to use both as a dump and have the return come in from the other end pushed by a Mag 9.5. On the end of the return I think I am going to hook on a Vertex Mocean 3500 WaveMaker. Any thought on this unit does anyone have one??? dinoflagellates

benzzz 01-14-2011 12:13 AM

Thought I would add a picture of the Vertex Mocean 3500 WaveMake. I am going to hook this up at the end of the return.

I cant wait to see this up and running. What corals are you planning? That depth will make it look so crazy with anything in there.

Thanks jphong, I have 2 tanks now full of corals so I will transfer those here when the tank is ready. I will have a variety of zoas, LPS and being so shallow I think SPS will go crazy with the light and flow in this tank.

Your dimensions are very cool...tons of floor space. I'm looking forward to seeing how you scape this baby.

Thanks Chris,

I was at the acrylic store today and picked up some acrylic dowel for posting the LR and had the one sump cut so I can build it. I have the table saw and acrylic cutting blade for it but sometimes it is easier to just get the guy to cut it right there.

Pictures to come.

Cheers man, Benzzz

Looking forward to seeing this build come together. I really like the looks of shallow tanks. The aquascaping ends up being more unique instead of the wall of live rock most people use in taller tanks.

I am sure it will take me a few times before I get the rock the way I like it. I have approx. 300lbs of LR that I will hand pick for the display and most of the rest will be going into the sump.

benzzz 01-19-2011 03:26 PM

Update....

Well the system is full of SW and I am slowly transferring LR to the sump section. Nothing in the display yet but I am slowly removing some corals to the sump area. I am going to add a few more each day until I run out of room. I am trying to hand pick some LR I am going to use in the display.

I took a couple pics of the corals I moved into their temporary home.

Thanks Chris, I am going nuts trying to figure out the scape. most common is two islands on either end and something to hide the inlet for the CL. I think as the corals come in to the tank one by one they are starting to look like an island effect. Going to take a couple pics once I figure it out more.
