In store contest / Harry needs a new house!
Harry-our lil'bad boy tank cleaning helper needs a new house!
http://i903.photobucket.com/albums/a...Reef/harry.jpg For those of you who don't know who "Harry" is here is a little background info. Harry is a very large Dardanus Megistos hermit crab (aka: white spotted hairy hermit) that was dropped off at our store by one of our regular customers. Harry has since become a well loved pet for the store staff and has proven himself to be a usefull tank cleaner. We regularly move Harry from tank to tank to clean detritus from the sand beds and to keep him happy. While Harry is a loveable creature, he has some pretty serious demands for food and housing. While we have been more then able to provide him copious amounts of tank space and a better diet then most of us tend to enjoy, we are finding ourselves in a bit of a pickle. Harry needs a new shell. Harry is a very large crab, and will soon be looking for a new shell to call home. Since we do not usually get our hands on larger shells, we are offering up a contest to any Vancouver Islanders who wish to participate. We will be accepting large shells from anyone who is willing to drop them off. All shells will be displayed, with the donaters name listed with them. The top 5 shells (chosen by Ronnie and Gareth) will then be voted on by our in store customers (ballot box on the counter). The top 3 winners will recieve the following prizes! First Place: $40 Live Stock Credit and 15% off any dry goods (This includes equipment!, Salt is exempt however) purchased the day the prize is claimed Second Place: $30 Live Stock Credit Third Place $20 Live Stock Credit We look forward to seeing your submissions! Rules: - Shells must not be varnished, painted, polished, or treated in any way (they will be going into salt water after all!) - Shells must be at least 6" from point to point (or Harry won't fit!) - Only one entry per person - Entries must be submitted before January 1st (Voting will begin second week of January) This is going to be a fun contest, Harry is looking forward to his bigger home. Cheers Gareth and Ronnie :) |
WOW the size of that thing! Thats not a hermit thats a main course at a top sea food restaurant!
Does Harry have a twitter account so we can all follow him? |
Harry is a monster for sure, but his large size makes him endearing. No twitter account for Harry, but Progressive Reef does have its own: Progressive Reefs Twitter

Why not let Harry choose the winning shell? Put all five finalists' shells in the tank with Harry and whichever shell he chooses wins.
|
now thats a cool idea!

We have now officially closed the Harry contest to new entries and are preparing for the Harry's shell selection. We will be setting up a freestanding tank for Harry with minimal decor and many shells to choose from!
Saturday March 12th we will be adding Harry's shells to his new temporary digs and watching how it plays out! If you would like to witness the potential shell swap drop in at Noon and share the excitement with us! Don't forget, Ronnie will be satisfying our sweet tooth with complimentary monster cookies! (Yum!) Look forward to seeing you here, Ronnie and Gareth |
