Another Rose Split
Seth comes over to check out my new corals and sees a rose anemone in a floating trap. Seth asks me if it was splitting and I told him, "nah, I just put it there because I rearranged the rockwork 2 nights ago". A few minutes later, I take another look from the top and indeed it was splitting. Luckily I took some pics and tried for some video. Unfortunately, while the camera was saving a 30 sec clip, the split happened before I could continue taking another 30 sec clip. So I missed getting the split on video by about 5 seconds. Well, here are pics.

Keep stressing it Sam, and soon you will have some rose BTA's for Calgary.
AMAZING! :)
it looks like somene ripping playdoh.... |
Great pics Sam!

 I must be getting closer to the top of the list.

amazing
=o) wohoo am i still on the bottom of the list? heheh |
Great pics
Thanks everyone. Yeah, the little guy will be ready to go once I see it healed and eating.
So is it splitting because you keep stressing it by moving it? if so is there any long term downside to causing splitting like this?
Steve |
How fast do they grow on your tank? Special diet?
awesome!
wanna trade one of those little guys for a 1' x 1' BTA?!?!??! but very cool pics indeed! |
Steve. This is the first time they've split after I moved it. The previous 3 splits were on their own. Not only are they splitting, they are growing. If they are stressed all the time, I'm not sure they would be growing.
ahh ok, I have heard from more than one person that the way to make them split is to stress them. so I thought this might be how you were doing it.
Steve |
The previous tan and green BTA's that I had were also splitting 2-3 times a year and had similar growth rates.
maybe the secret is above average NO3?
that's so cool. what's the time period from the first photo to the last??
Thanks. First one was 4:51pm. Last one was 6:10pm.
Sam, is there an indication that this is going to happen? Or do you just stumble across the event?

Mason, it sounds like heavy feeding followed by a large water change induces a bta to split. I also read where a guy was cutting them in half with a razor blade
Hi Brad. No indication at all. It happens unexpectedly everytime for me.
Well, hopefully I get to see it firsthand one of these days. For now, I'm just glad mine lived thru the stream "episode"
