Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
-10 out right now. Bloody cold for the coast! I hope it doesn't get much colder having an outdoor sump. All is fine for now, (tank temp is 79.3) but wouldn't want it to get much colder out.
|
I haven't ventured out to see what the temp is but its clear out so its gonna be a cold one! Can't wait for the skating rink roads tomorrow morning

Living in Calgary, it gets cold also. Right now it is -26, but at least it is a dry cold. It doesn't stick to you as bad as the coldness your in. |
UMMMMMMMMMMMMM not a lot of sympathy here..was -37 with wind chill this morning....forgot my tea in the car and it was frozen solid by lunch LOL
|
WCP!!! it's -24° and expected to -31° and that's without the windchill
|
The worst thing about winter on the coast is the snow. It's not dry like your flatland snow. Wet and slippery: Add to that, few cars have snow tires because we seldom get snow.

Lance I'll take your cold over what we got any day! It was -35 with the windchill today and the water in my water bottle (that I forgot in my car) was frozen solid after work  Now that's cold! :twised: Also it's supposed to be -31 tomorrow and -40  with the windchill :faint:

Don't get me wrong, I was just being whiney. I wouldn't trade our weather for yours any day. I have family in Calgary and Saskatoon, and have spent time there in winter and summer. Too cold and too hot for me. I'll just stick with our mild, wet climate. |
On cold cold nights like these I just plunk myself in front of the tank with a cup of tea.. -30 outside, +25 in the tank

Ha ha. That's what I've being doing too. Back and forth between the 'puter and the tanks. Tetley Orange Pekoe. |
Sympathies .... -10 for the coast must be pure pandemonium. It's not the weather that gets you, it's what people do when there's weather. So from that perspective I can only imagine what a nightmare it will be on your roads.
I don't think of Calgary as being flatland. Maybe the eastern side of the city but 30 minutes driving and I'm in mountains baby .. that aint no flatland. It's one reason it's semi-bearable some days (not this day in particular, but SOME days) to live out this way. Wish I could move somewhere else but that aint in the cards. Throw an extra heater in that sump .. I think I probably would if it were me. -10 is a little worrisome even with all that styrofoam... |

Yup, the road's are a mess. I can't wait to go to work tomorrow at 6:30 am Lucky we have an AWD vehicle. Actually, I like Calgary. In spring and fall, that is. Not so much in summer and winter. Mind you, it certainly hasn't been very hot there the last couple of summers. And yes, you do have hills. I put an extra heater in the sump this afternoon. Three in there now. 2x 300W and a 150W. |
Well it's almost 10pm here in Chilliwack and the thermometer is reading -19, its in the wind which is pounding us right now. Multiple power failures but so far ours seems to come back really fast. Pity the poor hydro guys out in this right now. The wind is a bit surprising though, the house is shaking...hope the tank at work fairs through the night with no major power failures there....I am originally from Winnipeg with the short stay in Edmonton so I have seen extreme cold but maybe its my age but the humidity really amplifies the cold out here....brrrrrr
|
This wind sucks! I have the whole chimney cap from one of my buildings sitting in my office waiting for the wind to die down so the heating guys can put it back on. it's too big to go thru the roof hatch, so they have to pull it up 5 stories to the roof. I don't think it was designed to come off
I spent all day alternating between shoveling sidewalks and blowing leaves out of the entrances.. Sucks.. Did I mention it sucks? |
OK enough I am from Calgary and -20 with wind chills is still a lot colder than - 10 on the coast even with the humidity.

brewcreek lodge passed squamish near whislter, here for the niece's wedding is -10 dgr no rain, no snow, but wind, roads are great to drive. Anyone been to this brewcreek, our room has no frigging tv, no telephone, no clock, no technology, except internet but a weak signal, anyway I guess people who stay at places like here wants no distraction and quiet time, apparently the niece has rented this entire lodge for all the guest staying here for the wedding. Cheers I guess I go stare at the creek tomorrow morning Ken

Awesome, -46C with the wind chill. Betting the tractor that wouldn't start yesterday won't start today either. Cool packing pails is sooooo much fun.

you most likely purchased the only winter tires avail on the island. happens every year...one lucky person gets the only winter tire. just like CT only has one snow shovel LOL |
LOL, nah I never do snow tires, we only get snow a couple times a year and they're a pain in the arse to store for the rest of the year. Besides, I always make my husband drive in the snow, he's from Alberta and better equipped for it.
|
Top of Lake Louise for the world cup races -50 with the wind chill.
Springbank Airport second coldest place on the planet this morning, just beat out by the south pole. |
Wind had a bit of a bite to it this am. Weather is supposed to turn around later in the week and I hope it brings a massive dump of snow with it I'm getting sick of sitting on my sled in the garage making braaaap braaaap noises I wanna ride....

I know! My wife had to have a vehicle with AWD. I said: "What for? She said: "For the snow." Last year I think we had 4 days of snow. Mind you, I certainly liked the AWD this morning on the way to work. Roads are a mess. |
Yup, you really feel the cold when you have to work outside 9 hours a day in this weather. Thank God for coveralls and boots!
|
I remembered this morning that clutches feel funny at -30.
Stay warm folks, especially you Dez and anyone else who has to work outside in this. When I built my house I "subcontracted" myself to do the network and speaker roughins. It was -20 when I was given the window of opportunity to go in. At that temperature, cat5 cable is about as pliable as steel rebar. Man what a miserable experience that was. String a room, go into the car and warm up, go string another room and back into the car, and so on. I ended up saying "forget it" to the speaker wires in the living room which I sorta regret NOW but, oh well c'est la vie. |
Jeez, I thought it was chilly on my walk to work today when it was 11C outside. I'd hate to be out where you guys are when it's actually winter.

Actually when the roads are this cold it's not too bad. It's that slushy wet ice we usually get that is the worst |
When I lived in New Westminster BC (very briefly I might add) I think they got about 2 inches of snow one night...and the place shut down. I guess they only plow the two "major" roads there or somthing because cars were LITERALLY abandoned in the road. Weirdest thing Jerry and I had ever seen...he's from Halifax and me from Calgary, so we've seen our fair share of crappy weather....

+1
The west coast is hilarious when it comes to snow we even get warnings for 5 - 10 cm Quote:

Dammit! I finally get the garage cleaned out so I can get both cars in and it warms up!
|
3 deg here in montreal and no snow
