Llamarama's 100g build *Updated Oct 20*

hiya, I've been trolling this forum for far too long :) but i've learned tons and met many awesome people and now its time to share my tank build! we started off with a 25g and are now in the process of upgrading to a 100g...we picked up the tank in calgary from a guy working overseas who let all the water evaporate and everything died so the rock was in rough shape but its been curing in a rubbermaid for about a month and a half now and hopefully we'll start seeing some progress soon. the tank is 60 x 20 x 20 ish and came with a coralife super skimmer 125 :( and a tunze 9005 with a broken magnetic impeller :( we picked up a used Remora Pro for now and have plans to fix the tunze and maybe run both. Tank was not drilled but hubby drilled all 4 holes yesterday (2 for herbie in rear of tank, and 2 returns) still need to build an overflow. plumbing and quietone 5000 were recieved from J&L yesterday as well. Painted the back of the tank today hoping to have it plumbed etc... by the end of the week to start getting things moved over rock or not I have about 30lbs of rock in m 25g as well as about 35 lbs running in my sump that i got from a friend (marine apprentice/Terry). I think it will still be some time before my rubbermaid rock is suitable to be in the tank but we will see :) anyway i picked up a 40ish gallon sump from reefwars(Denny) in edmonton and we should be up and running by next weekend with any luck! thanks for reading! now heres some pictures

From another reefer in the area, just wanted to say Hi, and wish you success in your build  , looks like you have a plan and are off to a good start. I know what you mean about trolling the forum, I do the same thing, looking for deals lol. Would like to follow along and see how it all comes together.

Karen.

Glad to meet ya! Whereabouts In red deer do you live? It's always great to meet people locally as sometimes we can save driving time etc ;) I live on the east side in clearview

Seafan 09-06-2010 05:34 AM

We live close to the Joffre plant. Moved to Alberta just over a year ago now, so I am still learning my way around the area, don't know where clearview is  . It takes me awhile or should I say more than awhile to get around and learn my way. I agree with you, It would be nice to be able to save on driving time.

Llamarama 09-13-2010 04:51 AM

Quick update :) pics to follow once I retrieve my camera from my car tomorrow...

overflow is done and in, plumbing is about 90% done (yay!) rock is still curing :( but the tank should be ready for water in a couple days and I can start moving things :) my fishies will all be so happy with the extra space!!

Llamarama 09-28-2010 04:38 AM

F@&#!

well its been a good few weeks...filled the tank got the plumbing all going, discovered a small leak near the top of the tank in one of the corners grr fixed that....got everything transferred over no cycle everything was great...picked up my gorgeous LTA from Denny and everything seemed to be thriving :) today I looked over at my tank and was so so excited to see my clowns in the LTA (they're tank bred and kinda slow) so I sat down in front of the tank to watch the action and F@&# one of my fish has ich spots on him /cry FML never had ich in my tank before so stress from the move must have had some effect...so it looks like i'm setting up the 2 25g tanks for QT and meds for 6-8 weeks while it dies off in the DT.....ugh hopefully this all works out wish me luck! at least it gives me room to aquascape :cry:

oh yeah forgot to mention that on monday last week, hubby dropped the light fixture in the tank and electrocuted himself (luckly none of the fish) *shakes fist* so we had to go to calgary to get a new light fixture on the weekend and now i need to find ich meds somewhere AAARGH thats 3 right? bad things always in 3...hopefully

lockrookie 09-28-2010 06:02 AM

when i got ich with my regal i used a product called rid ich in the display tank worked great as long as you dose corectly i kinda under dosed the first time and had to have a do ever but havent seen ich since

Llamarama 09-28-2010 03:10 PM

hm well i have a bottle of rid ich + but i'm not about to toss it in the display, the back says not to and it's formalin so i'll probably end up pulling the fish out and see how that goes. thanks though :)

"Rid Ich may harm some invertebrates including "live rock" and may not be safe to use in aquariums containing these animals" scares me a bit :S

Llamarama 09-29-2010 11:50 PM

Well the tank just blew a seam all the way to the bottom. Fish and such are distributed between the sump and 2 other tanks o had sitting empty. What a horrible couple of weeks /cry I quit for now

reefwars 09-30-2010 04:51 AM

wow talk about bad luck if theres anything i can do dont be afraid to ask:):) im gonna be coming down to calgary soon and i may drop in to see the new tank:)

Llamarama 09-30-2010 05:04 AM

no worries we got it covered...I think we're gonna pick up a 50 or 75 and just keep all the stuff we really really love...it's been a rough couple weeks :( would be good for you to stop in for sure though!

fishytime 09-30-2010 12:45 PM

Oh no Girly:sad:.......man you really have had a bad run of luck!......keep your chin up.....at least you managed to save your stuff:neutral:

Llamarama 10-16-2010 09:45 PM

Ok! Picked up my new (to me) tank in Calgary today! Hooray! It's not too purdy but it will work for now! Good thing that came fro this was that I caught all my fishies and started treating them and nobody died and my floor isn't ruined :) just lucky we were home when it happened. Pics to come over the next couple days as I get it filled with rocks and water and whatnot :)

should be full today or tomorrow :) sadly my RO/DI can only make water so fast :P

Llamarama 10-21-2010 05:06 AM

soo everything is in the tank :) nothing is very happy but it's all in there. unfortunately somehow my filefish's horn got impossibly stuck in the net...so he now has a teeny piece of net stuck to his horn (we had to cut him free) hopefully it isn't too much of a hinderance and by tomorrow everything will be much happier and the nem will choose a suitable home. Although it's covered in scratches, this tank seems much more structurally sound and at least it was cheap :) thanks for looking
