Need help finding a Internal Pump for Sump
I am looking for a Internal Pump for my sump It will be pumping from a 40 gallon sump to a 90. What are the best Internal pumps?

The best pump is the one that is:
1. Silent. 2. Consumes less watts that means it will stay cool. 3. Reliable. So Red Dragon, Eheim. Mag drives are reliable, very reliable but noisy and hot. |
Sedra , Quiet ones...red dragon and ehiem will cost you some cash but the best nuff said. the quiet ones and mags little less expensive and sedras even less expensive....technically you get what you pay for and sometimes you luck out with the cheaper stuff :)
personally I would buy the red dragon....but I also want a ferrari...same thing :) |
I recommend the Eheim. Best pump for the money IMO.

I've ran a lot of Danner Mag Drive pumps (currently using 3.5, 5, 7, 9.5, and a 12) and wouldnt recommend them anymore. The impellers have a way of magically breaking, two of my pumps I have to hit to get them to start running and anything above a mag 9.5 is really loud. So my vote is for Eheim and Quiet One as they are the only other two submersibles I've had experience with.

Eheim pumps say............ " Note: This pump is not self priming."
what does this mean?........ sorry to intrude on your post:neutral: |

my 2 cents:
If you can get the Red Dragon, Get it. IF not, but you can afford the eheim, get it. IF not, then get the Quietone or Sedra. |

Funny I have been running mag pumps for my whole hobby since 2002 and never had any problems with them.. i have ran the 3,5,7,9,12,18 with no negitive feedback

They are good pumps but I find they produce more heat and are noisier than the Eheim. On the flip side they are considerably cheaper though. |
Had a quiet one and couldn't get rid of it fast enough as it was nothing but trouble and loud. Picked up an ehiem and could not be happier
|
i thought about getting a eheim but what one.

I got some aqua globes from Mitch at bow valley and man those little guys move so much water and are reletivly quiet, they are mag drive.

So I see lots of suggestions on pumps but what flow should his pump be putting out for his tank. How many gph should it be rated for? I would like to know this as well, how do you determine what gph have to be moved in the tank?

i have a red dragon 4.5 pump ive been thinking about selling,im just not using it, they are completely silent so there good if noise matters, if someone gave me $350 id probably sell it.
|

I've been running Ocean Runners for years . Model numbers OR3500 and OR6500.
I've had a couple wear out, but that's after about 5 years of continual use. I'm pretty happy with that. Not interested in looking at other brands. It also depends what's available locally to you. If your LFS will give you good service and warranty, that should be a consideration. Mitch |
Loud....wouldn't re start after any power interuption even when perfectly clean and generally just not happy with it...now it is moving water in w tub in the basement cooking some live rock for my new classroom tank....
