Do you have any pics of the riser chamber foaming?

It doesn't have to sit in a sump? Hmmm... Could be an interesting upgrade for me in the future. Could I run a similar skimmer inline in a "closed loop" type configuration, where the input would be a pump fed by a hang on J-tube and the output back up into the tank?

I thought all of the larger skimmers ran in a sump?

No they don't have to run in a sump. But the outlet does have to be above the water line of the tank/sump.

I wouldn't run it directly into a tank tho. The bubbles out of the skimmer would fill your tank.

No pics yet chris.. I will try when I get home from class today.

"In Sump," as in not a "Hang On." That's all it means. They can be plumbed remotely if that's what your heart desires (plus this is a good way to limit the noise issues from one of these becket-bad-boys). But I don't know if I'd be willing to dish out the retail kind of coin that a PM Bullet-3 costs (more than $1000.00 with pump) if I didn't have the tank size and stocking level to warrant it (unless of course I got a deal like Darren did ;) )

Hello,

Speaking strictly from a manufacturer's point of view, what they charge for a Bullet 3 is not expensive at all.

Speaking from a newbie's point of view, only morons would spend that much of money.

Speaking from a dedicated, committed, and crazy minded aquarist point of view, whatever it takes. :D

Hello,

Haha Darren, another one of those skimmer with gate valve closed over spilling completely. I tell you guys, for those who don't know or haven't used a real skimmer before, things aren't like that man. :D

Ahh the gate valve wasn't completely closed. That is the thing. It was open as I had been running it earlier, but the beckett was dirty and it wasn't running efficiently. That coupled with a water change that night made for a mass of foam. ;)
