Epic Build, The 750 monster

And so it begins, I recently scored a screaming deal on a complete 750 gal FOWLR set-up (1000 gal total volume including sump), included all equipment and even 30+ very nice fish. All the specifics will follow, but first better get pics up before the lynch mob strikes.

Still wrapped from the trip home, but this
http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/r...5/IMG_2305.jpg

Is going to go here
http://i472.photobucket.com/albums/r...5/IMG_2306.jpg

The tank measures 96lx60wx30h 1" cellcast acylic.

Don't blink, this will go quick as all the livestock along with 400lbs sand and 700lbs LR are currently in temporary holding facilities and need to get back to the big tank ASAP. Demo for the install will start this afternoon.

christyf5 09-12-2009 05:38 PM

oooh so exciting!!!! We'll have to have another meeting of the Powell River Hardcore Reefers Club. Now this is truly hardcore!

Can we get a fish list?

PuffLuv 09-12-2009 05:38 PM

WOW!:shocked!:Can't wait to see it setup!!

JDigital 09-12-2009 05:59 PM

WHOA!! That looks like a BIG BIG BIG tank... Shame it will only be a FOWLR

Tom R 09-12-2009 06:00 PM

This is very exciting

and if it doesn't work out the tank will make a very nice hot tub.

Good luck

Both mine seem to be heading that way....

Myka 09-12-2009 07:55 PM

Oh nice!! I see NO shame in a 750 gallon FOWLR! I wouldn't mind a big FOWLR, but there is no part of me that wants a big reef!

bignose 09-12-2009 08:20 PM

Can't wait to see this! Any details on the equipment?

marie 09-12-2009 08:24 PM

If you need extra salt water when you put this thing together I have approx 60g of new salt water heated and ready to use

I would love to have a reef this big, however the fish that will be residing in it would make short work of any corals.

Details to follow shortly, I still have to inventory all that came with it and figure out what will be used.

Thanks, I have enough salt to do the changeover, should only need around 300 gal to make it work.

Off hand, the livestock consists of:
1 very large French Angel
1 very large Unicorn Tang
1 Queen Angel
1 stunning Blue Face Angel
1 Asfur Angel
1 Sailfin Tang
1 Hippo Tang
1 Purple Tang
1 Harlquin Tusk
2 Royal Gramma
1 Black Cap Basselet
1 Very large I haven`t looked it up yet
1 Cleaner Wrasse
1 large Bird Wrasse
1 Long Nose Butterfly
2 Don`t know butterfly
4 Green chromis
6 Ocellaris Clowns
1 Flame Angel
1 Flame back Angel
1 Hawkfish

I think there may be a few others that are in hiding right now and all fish are mature, large and some of the nicest looking specimens I have seen, the only two with issues are the Hippo Tang and Long nose Butterfly (Lateral line issues)

Kryptic4L 09-12-2009 10:18 PM

i blinked is it done yet?

Mrfish55 09-12-2009 11:12 PM

Just working out the reno plan, no activity tomorrow as it is my loving wifes birthday and I best make it special! I will be going full at it Monday.

geobee 09-13-2009 01:20 AM

Congrats on the new tank i would love to have a FOWLR that size, the fish you could put in a tank that size are gorgeous and worthy as the focal point. Are you going to be using sunlight from the window as your lighting?

No, the window is comming out and the tank is going in, there is a concrete patio with a sundeck above just outside the window I will be closing in a
8x12' section to create a fishroom, technically the tank will be sitting outside the house (also gives the piece of mind that in the event of catastophic failure the 1000gals will be outside and not fill my basement) I will probably install a small window just for ventilation but there will be no natural light for the tank.

I don't see any fish on that list that the clarkii's couldn't keep from bothering a large anemone

sharuq1 09-13-2009 02:05 AM

Wow!!!! I can't wait to see it all up and running.

If you get rid of those guys what are you going to put in the tank? If you really want rid of them I am sure I can find some space, after all I am dealing with 40sq ft of real estate  You need to stop by and have a look at this thing it's crazy, can't wait to get it in the wall.

It was an easy sell once I saw it last week all set up, took all of 10 seconds to seal that deal, I have a few small changes in mind regarding how the equipment will be plumbed. If all goes well I should have it back up and running with the fish back in by next weekend.

Let me put it this way, if you don't want them they are going to Bobs.

I want to clean up the cube tank and put some of the corals and rock that are in the 175 into the cube tank... making more room for new corals and maybe a bit more swimming room for the fish

I might just stop in monday to have a look....your going to have to start charging an admission fee to your basement

sitandwatch 09-13-2009 02:33 AM

Where the heck is Powell River? I need to see this and show the wife and kids.

Good luck it looks like it will be awsome!!

Delphinus 09-13-2009 03:29 AM

That is an awesome plan to have the tank sit outside like that and then build walls around it to make a fishroom. How cold does it get in winter for you guys?

100 miles north of Vancouver, an easy 19 hour drive:lol: you are more than welcome to stop by if you are ever in the area.

This is the easy way for me to make it work, no taking up room in the house and eliminating the humidity issue that comes with this kind of water volume, we don't get really cold winters, the room will be well insulated and properly ventilated.

Lets just say if the temp drops below -5C everyone's whining and complaining about how cold it is and the stores suddenly sell out of long johns

WOW can't wait to see it up and running. Also glad I don't have to do the water changes for it!

Water changes shouldn't be a problem, I will just use the water from the reef when I do that one.

ALBERTA REEF 09-13-2009 05:30 AM

Apparently you have a very understanding wife to let you get away with a tank that size. This going to be a good thread to fellow along. Good luck!

Good idea. That's how I recycle my reef water change through my fowlr/softie tank.

I think you might need to crank the skimmer up a bit, I'm getting nearly 3 cups in a 24hr period

I may have to take my two tanks and leave town. I'm being out-hardcored badly. Dave now has about 1500 gals of saltwater and Marie grows SPS faster than the Indo-Pacific!
I can't compete anymore.
I should find a nice little town where I can start a new Hardcore Reefers Club.

Hmmmmmm. President of the "Buttville Hardcore Reefers Club."
Kinda has a nice ring to it.
