Free 500g tank

I just saw an add for a free 500g aquarium with stand. It's all glass and located in Innisfail... As much as I would love to get it for myself, I couldn't fit it in our place.

However if someone else wants to pick it up for themself, go for it! Maybe if someone could help me find something for myself (between 50 and 100g) and relatively inexpensive, I'd be indebted.

Already contacted them when I saw the ad last night, super excited. I think it's more like a 240g or so.

Three guesses on what I'll be doing when I get home?

Malibu 06-22-2009 09:19 PM

lol I thought someone would act fast on that! I SO wish I had the room for it... any chance you're looking to upgrade to this one, and might be looking to get rid of another one?

sphelps 06-22-2009 09:21 PM

haha, you get what you pay for. I would never in a million years cheap out on something that could destroy your house in a second if it fails. I also wouldn't setup something so elaborate just because one of the cheapest components was free.

Nothing in life is free, everything comes at a price

1. Watching TV.
2. Making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
3. Putting on the skates and taking the dogs for a walk.

I actually just want the tank for the glass. It looks to be pretty small so I'm thinking a good sump tank (after being resiliconed), or it could be cut down to make some of my smaller tanks I need. I definitely wouldn't be putting that up as a display.

Wow Ryan...that is really pretty creepy...1. yes 2. yes, and 3. yes

The 180g? Yeah, it will be going to a new home, or being disassembled for re-use one the big system is up.

muck 06-22-2009 09:27 PM

WooHoo... gold star for me.

michika 06-22-2009 09:28 PM

I sent an email, now we're waiting on a reply.

Malibu 06-22-2009 09:30 PM

well, if any of you are willing to help out a bit of a newbie, it would be much appreciated. I currently have a 30 gal set-up for my goldies, and a 50 gal tropical that I would love to upgrade to a larger setup, move the golds to the 50 gal and get rid of the 30 gal.

michika 06-22-2009 09:32 PM

My 180g system is easily 8 months to 18 months out from the upgrade. Just keep looking around, you'll find something eventually that works for you.

I'm guessing you know it's been sold/taken?

sharuq1 06-23-2009 12:51 AM

Sadly yes, I wonder who the lucky guy was

Nice assumption there!

sharuq1 06-24-2009 07:23 PM

Wow....just found out the person who took the tank who "prayed and grovelled for it" (according to the original owner) just resold it for $600. Nice....

Malibu 06-24-2009 07:51 PM

ugh... doesn't that just make you want to throw things - like that person, out of a window, maybe?

Report him to Rev Can ;) That's a capital gain of $600....... it's taxable :)

Cheers,
Vic [silly accountant]

Caveat emptor.

If it seems to good to be true, it probably is

The above all apply.

sharuq1 06-24-2009 09:15 PM

Does that mean because it's $600 now that suddenly it's better? (I'll shut up now, lol)

Hmm, I've bought some nice systems that were dirt cheap and they were great deals. Full 120 reef, oak cabinet/canopy (8ft tall), MH halide lights, 200 pounds of rock, custom sump, skimmer, all livestock, etc, for $175. Thinkin' that's a pretty good deal....:)

No way, I turned around and parted the system out for about 2g. I'm not dumb. I did inform the seller that they should do the same, and I would help them, but they wanted it gone that day. So....

Leah 06-24-2009 09:28 PM

It seems to me, it is sometimes hard to give stuff away free!!!!!:grab:

Ok, negative Nancy!! Just because it's cheap (or free) doesn't mean it sucks. Maybe it doesn't in this case (I didn't see the ad before it was removed), but yeesh!!
