New skimmer thoughts on pump thou
 

here is my question what pump would better with the skimmer I have 3 choices REEFFLO SNAPPER, PCX 70, PCX 100 I know that Becketts use raw power to run the skimmer forcing the water through the becketts. the 100 is 360w , 70 is 300w and the snapper is 98W
Im looking at the either the 70 or the 100 what are your thoughts on this the skimmer is 62 " high to for your thoughts.
now the snapper also has seals wouldnt this not work causing the seals to blow on the pump, due to the back pressure.....

all I know, is that when I was reading up on these beckett skimmers, all the "pros" kept saying was that to make it really worth while, you had to have a pressure rated pump...

Are all three of those pressure rated?

I would go with the snapper, they perform better with the back pressure.

whati got the 70 and the 100 is pressure rated, the snapper is a low flow 2500gph the 70 is 1535 the 100 is 1590.

Dave the snapper thou wont the seals get messed up on the pump having the back pressure. The big skimmer like the ORCA and the volcano skimmers run the snapper but its a venturi thou...

Is the cost of electricity or noise a consideration?

Tom I knew that it would come up. its in my fish room down stairs where my rec room is ..
see if i run a 70 then i could tee off a little flow for the return for the tank. Then take the mag 12 off too.
see what gets me is the 70pcx is 1535gph 300W
100pcx is 1590gph 380W
snapper is 98 w 2500gph but how much flow will I use if I have the snapper on and will the seals last on the pump and will the beckett actually work good. pumping the water up 62"

I would run a dedicated pump to the skimmer, I tried a larger pump figuring I could combine everything and found it to be a PITA to adjust flows for max performance.

I'd try out one of the Reeflo pressure-rated pumps as somebody mentioned. The snapper may have proven to be a good needlewheel/venturi pump but that's a whole different ballgame. The Iwaki-based pumps are tried and true for becketts but they are real energy hogs and aren't exactly very quiet.

I don't think the snapper will work in that application.

Totally agree. I have an Iwaki 70RLT running my Beckett skimmer and while it does a great job, it is indeed quite noisy. In my situation it doesn't matter as it is in a closet. I wouldn't recommend it if noise is an issue.

ya i think that im going to go with the PCX 70 or the 100 hmmmmmmmm i cant make up my mind.

Blueline 70
me and doug were talking and i cant remember what one it was better.. i need to get this sorted out so quinster can get the skimmer out to me .... so i can suck the scales off the fish here soon, and im headign to Mexico the week after so i need to get the skimmer dialed in ....
