First look at a RKL-PICS ADDED!

Well, i bit the expensive bullet and ordered my new Reef Keeper Lite tonight.

It says ships in 7-8 days, so I expect it to be here in early april :P

I'll be taking pics of unwrapping, the whole set, and whatever people want pics of.

i'll also talk about how well ti was shipped, how well it works, ect

Why did you decide on the Reef Keeper Lite over ProfiLux?

I'm guessing you mean to ask him besides the HUGE price difference...lol:lol: $149 versus $599

Price is always a consideration, however it usually differentiates some of the capabilities one product can do over the other.

Was price your only consideration?

for me i only need a few functions and dont need a $600 controller on the 1 tank however on the larger system i will be looking at something a bit better

karazy 03-09-2009 09:52 PM

price was defiantly an issue on this one as im on a 13 year olds budget :p

another thing was i really dont need something as elaborate as the profilux for this tank.
it's going to be going on a system that's about 40 gallons in all, so i thought the RKL would be a good alternative.

Who did you buy it from?

Cheers,
Vic

karazy 03-09-2009 11:23 PM

i bought it straight from the digital aquatics online store

bigblack 03-09-2009 11:24 PM

nice i'm looking at buying one of these too, let us know how it is and where u got it from , price? i hear they only come with a 4 plug outlet.

karazy 03-09-2009 11:40 PM

I got it from the digital aquatics online store for about $410 dollars Canadian(that includes shipping), it's package three so it comes with everything i need.

it comes with expandability possibilities, with 3 ports, so you can hook up PC4's(four plug outlet),SL1's (for salinity, orp, and ph probes. holds up to 2 probes) and MLC's (a LED moonlight type device)

since this expandability is available, they set up 3 different bundles.

bundle 1 comes with:
1 x Head unit
1 x PC4 (4 outlets)
1 x temperature probe
bundle 2 comes with:
1 x Head unit
1 x PC4 (4 outlets)
1 x SL1 (Inputs: pH, ORP, Temperature, 2 x Switch Ports)
1 x Temperature probe
bundle 3 comes with:
1 x Head unit
2 x PC4 (total of 8 outlets)
1 x SL1 (Inputs: pH, ORP, Temperature, 2 x Switch Ports)
1 x Temperature probe
1 x FREE Digital Aquatics pH probe

so far I've played around with it a bit and it seems like a very slick set up.
a few things are confusing, but the customer support is amazing so far.

Nice, Keep us informed on how it works I see a future gift for myself.

digital-audiophile 03-21-2009 01:09 AM

Looks like they have done a good job.

The price is actually decent considering they include the PH probe.

tank is still not up, but it seems pretty good after playing around with it.
ill have to play with it more, but i'll update as soon as anything comes up.

michika 04-19-2009 04:27 PM

It looks like it still has the Capsense buttons on it, is that true?

Kryptic4L 04-19-2009 06:10 PM

yay on more DA owner's. looks like the lite is a decent looking unit, I just got my elite w\ net 2 weeks ago, still yet to fully set it up. its just running my lights and ph and orp right now. Couldnt find more calibration solution around town because i thought i was off on my calibration. was a consistant 7.6 . I have since got a vortech in my system. and its been rising ever since. up to 8.08 as of today.

How do you like the RKL? Your post got me thinkin about spoiling one of my nanos, I know my way around plcs but at that price why bother.
