I am the happiest reefer tonight ! Dragonets Spawn *EDIT* 3 VIDEOS ADDED Page 2

Tonight at about 11:45pm I witnessed my Male and Female Green Dragonets Spawn:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:. I have seen them swim to the surface many times at night and do spawning actions. But tonight was the first time that my female shot eggs into the water and my male shot sperm. It was honestly the most amazing thing I have witnessed in my aquarium. Then I watched my chalk bass, swiss guard and clowns have a feast .

I know this thread is useless without pics/videos !!!!

I will be at my tank with my camera next time and get a video and post A.S.A.P.

The dragonet spawning "dance" they do is really quite beautiful, isn't it? Congrats. I had a pair of scooters spawn for me once too, really neat to watch.

Thats pretty cool, thanks for sharing.

I've personally had a green wolf eel blenny lay eggs, a tomato clown fish deposit eggs, my sebae anemone release eggs, a turbo snail release sperm, a tiger tail cucumber divided, a green bubble tip anemone split twice, a pocillopora sp. spawned... and my stomatella snails are always going at it. The only times I've ever had anything develop was with the stomatella snails and pocillopora (which must be self fertilizing).

Sebae Anemone that released eggs? I thought all nems split!

Delphinus 03-02-2009 05:05 PM

I'd say most don't split, actually..

Go over to the marine ornamental website (link above).

They have many members and Matt W. (author of the marine fish breeding book) is a member and will gladly answer any questions.

Also In this months Coral Mag Matt W has an article on breeding Mandarins :)

Cheers,
Vic

My green mandarins spawned and then when this became regular, my female died. She was quite plump, and just dropped dead.

I will be very interested to see how yours do.

Murminator 03-16-2009 04:47 PM

Never seen a mandrian move that fast when they got in the blast from the powerhead

TheRealBigAL 03-18-2009 08:17 AM

no blast

They did not get blasted by the power head. They move fast like that when spawning. The female releases her eggs into the water and the male shoots sperm at them. Then they quickly dart down. they do this because while spawning they are very susceptible to predators. So after they are quick to get back to the safety of the live rock. Its very hard to see the eggs in the water after they dart down. Then the chalk bass get to eat like pigs
