i ended up with a 2-3" mantis thanks to the 22lbs of rock i bought sat. hes a smasher has some color but not a peacock, hes been hiding in the rocks and rubble thats in my qt tank so id like to find him a home, id keep him if i had a proper space
anyway i got him for free so ill take offers or a half decent sps or lps frag maybe

Where did you buy your LR? I got a wonderful little bastard in some of my Bima rock purchased at OceanCity and he looked very similar to yours.

Fenix 02-23-2009 09:31 PM

are mantis shrimp very common?

Jay180reef 02-23-2009 09:32 PM

I've had 2 so far with 230lbs of LR, but I don't think it's typical.

Fenix 02-23-2009 09:46 PM

ive always been interested in them but would rather setup a tank solely dedicated to it than add it to my reef. maybe down the line for me.

Jay180reef 02-23-2009 09:48 PM

Oh ya, they are a total nuisance in the reef tank, killing off most of my clean-up crew before I could catch him. I still can't catch the second one, I'll likely need to tear apart the rockwork.

i bought some marshal island's rock from red coral and the first time i didnt put the rock in the qt tank first i get a surprise, i put the rock in and a couple hours later i looked over and he was sitting at the front diggin in the sand, ive bought hundreds of pounds of rock over the years but never had one before so not very common i wouldnt say, ive had a small mantis in a 7g tank once and thier great pets i wish i had a spot for him but he cant stay in the qt forever

Get a hold of Hurley I know he is really looking for one...

Would you be willing to ship? I could always add to the stomatopod collection ;).

Jay180reef, samething if you manage to catch the that one.

sorry i dont wanta ship livestock,

i have crabs 02-27-2009 10:17 PM

how about free then, as if nobody wants a mantis for free, he's a 2-3" smasher, sofar he hides most of the time but keeps watch from his little cave, if nobody takes him by sunday morning he's goin into a sump somewhere to fend for himself and id rather he had a home where his coolness wouldnt be wasted

BC564 02-27-2009 10:49 PM

Im surprised with all your tanks....you havent claimed a tank for critters like this.....

i have crabs 02-27-2009 11:07 PM

i used to have 2 12"cubes for stuff like this but ive been tryin to cut down on stuff a bit, i would like to keep him but other than a few spots in sumps i dont have a spot right now, im shure if he ends up in a sump ill get a smash in the fingers one day while im messin around

AHHope 06-01-2009 06:53 PM

Stomatopods are by far the most interesting invert around. We now have a deticated cube and a divider in our 55 cause we cant get enough of them. After you get over the constant clicking noises.
BTW do you still have him?

i have crabs 06-01-2009 11:25 PM

he ended up in the sump but another one showed up and i havnt been able to catch that one yet.
