Thanks for the link Snaz. Congrats Chaloupa on FTOTM. BTW I love the write up, it has a personal touch to it and many parts sound like something I would say

Hi Chaloupa

Congrats on FTOTM

You have followed the same path as many REEFERs to a successful great looking tank.

Great looking Tank Chaloupa, I guess we are all lucky Christy had to pick up frags from your place.

Skimmerking 12-29-2008 11:39 PM

way to go Chaloupa

Near as I can tell there are 2 things wrong with your write up

Quote:

there is no way mine is as good as ANY previous tanks ...
Your tank is as good as all the previous FTOTM's and

I like to talk fish, so my write up is long...
Your write up wasn't long at all. After reading that sentence I went back and read it 2 more times thinking I must of missed a section

I know, I told her it couldn't be too long. Just wait until I'm TOTM you guys will have to read it in shifts

Chaloupa 12-30-2008 12:30 AM

Thanks everyone!!!

I thought my write up was long...but spaced out it's not too bad....you should have read my first write up (the one I didn't send to Christy!) it was really long and I figured no one would want to read it!

Delphinus 12-30-2008 12:36 AM

Congrats Sarah! :)

Lance 12-30-2008 02:08 AM

Congratulations Sarah! Good Job!
I had the good fortune to see this tank a short time ago, and it truly is worthy of TOTM. Corals, fish, etc. are all fat and healthy, and the tank is clean and well cared for. She showed me several other tanks that are every bit as nice too!

Chowder 12-30-2008 02:51 AM

Congrates Sarah , definetly a tank that is more then worthy for FTOTM.

Snappy 12-30-2008 04:05 AM

Congratulations Sarah. Well done and a great way for Canreef to start the new year.

JDigital 12-30-2008 07:47 PM

Congrats! Gorgeous Mixed reef!

Kudos Sarah. Beautiful tank it is.

Doug 01-10-2009 05:16 PM

Congrats Sarah. :D Finally had time to read it better. Nice write up and a very nice reef tank.

Chaloupa 01-10-2009 05:18 PM

thanks Doug!

I finally got the Powder Blue out of the tank!!! YAY for me. Here's an idea for a fully stocked reef that has a fish you NEED out of the tank;

we got a piece of .080 plexi from a local plastics shop, cut it to the height of the tank and almost 1/2 the length of the tank. We then placed it in the water about 2-3 inches away from the glass like another wall....the fish could not see it, then we fed the fish inside the created wall, and once he went in, which was very quickly, the plexi being the size it was allowed for bending and we bent the end around so that he was trapped....hope that made sense then we netted him out.

This fish had completely outwitted us previously...the other 2 were a cinch with our large homemade fish trap...this one didn't fall for that trick nor did he bite the hook we used (we'd used that method previously with a clownfish that didn't want to leave the tank and it worked well with an 18g barbless hook!) My husband came up with this idea and it only took 5 minutes!!! No coral damage, no stress to the other fish, and a cinch! If only we had thought of it MONTHS ago!!

oceansh 01-22-2009 06:30 AM

Way to go!
Beautiful tank!

Chaloupa 01-22-2009 06:34 AM

And another update with the tank...(thanks to Christy for arranging it and picking it up)....I have changed my skimmer to a Euroreef RS250. I love it...gives me more room in the sump and less pumps than the H&S which is an amazing skimmer....just too bulky for my sump.

I also have added my Loonie sized Copperband Butterfly to the tank now that the Powder Blue is out..and I added a Moorish Idol. Moorish Idol police need not respond. I know it's not a recommended fish...but I wanted to give it a try once the tang was out as the 3 tangs killed my other Moorish Idol. Oh, and YES the Moorish Idol is eating Mysis and PELLETS!!!!! He LOVES NLS finicky eater pellets...they are amazing! The CBB tastes them too! The CBB has been in my Q tank for the past couple of months as I knew I couldn't add him until the tangs were gone!

christyf5 01-22-2009 02:19 PM

Congrats on getting that little bugger out of the tank Sarah, I'm glad the plexi worked out for you, I can't imagine the alternative (that being ripping the tank apart in an act of desperation ).

Can't wait to come up and see the MI

Johnny Reefer 01-22-2009 03:29 PM

Congratulations on FTOTM!

Delphinus 01-22-2009 09:12 PM

Like the plexi idea, might have to give that a try!! Thanks for sharing the tip. (I'm currently moving stock from one tank to another and have been dreading the point where it's the fish's turn!!)

Chaloupa 01-23-2009 07:37 AM

Wow, beautiful fish, good luck - I'm sure he's got a better shot in your tank than most. I was eyeballing one at the LFS today. That's so great he's eating allready!!

Lance 01-23-2009 01:30 PM

The Moorish Idol looks healthy and fit, Sarah. Good luck with him. I went the easy route with a Bannerfish.
