Going to Indonesia in a week!!

Alright my girlfriend and I are going to Indonesia in a week for 3 weeks, anyone ever been or have any suggestions for diving/snorkeling spots? I'm getting pretty excited about it now, and am overwhelmed with all the possibility s, but am leaning toward the Raja Ampat Islands.

Delphinus 01-22-2008 05:36 AM

Sweet, wow. Have a safe and great trip!

Der_Iron_Chef 01-22-2008 05:43 AM

I've never snorkeled there, but regardless, it should be a pretty fun trip. Love SE Asia :)

A few Underwater Pics from the Trip

Well i ended up going to Thailand for my vacation instead of Indonesia due to bad weather in Indo and logistical problems for my time frame. But here are some pics from all over Thailand. Starting with the Ko Lanta and ending with the Similian Islands.

:crazyeye: WOW!!!!!!! I'm so jealous right now. Crazy pic.'s thanks for sharing, very cool to see them. Any idea how big the clown tang in that pic. is? I just got a smaller one for my tank, so cool to see a pic. of a big one. Also that unicorn tang looks huge!

04scoobysti 02-19-2008 05:00 AM

That clown tang was around 14" and the Unicorn was over 24"! The Similian Islands are amazing and i wish i could have spent my whole trip there!
Oh and in the 3rd pic the moray at the bottom was the size of a basketball around, almost pooped my pants when i jumped in the water and almost landed on top of him. Its the only pic i took before got scared and scrambeled back onto my kayak.

Delphinus 02-19-2008 05:24 AM

Dang I want to go somewhere

Yup, with pretty much everything i saw, but it really made me think about how much damage they must when harvesting. I also saw many tourists standing up (to readadjust their life jacket and goggles)on tabling acros, montis etc. and snaping off large portions. People who can't swim shouldn't be allowed near the shallow areas of the reef where they can cause alot of damage with their feet. I also tried yelling at whoever i saw, but its futile when nobody understands english.

It amazes me how some people like nature but have no respect for it. When I went to the west coast of Vancouver Island ,I would avoid stepping on things even if it meant taking the long way around while some parents where watching their kids dry out a sunstar and torture / kill crabs. I told the kids as best I could not to do that and I picked up the sunstar and crabs and put them back in the water. I was just waiting for the parents to say something to me but they knew I was mad enough to turn them into crab bait.
