Just when you think it can't get worse

I have a 24" aqualight Pro on my hex....first the ballast went on it....so no biggie we'll just "get another" and contact ESU for replacement...ok that didn't work so Mike at Hidden Reef is trying to get us one...so 65g looks like crap, anyone ever tried to talk to ESU about warranty stuff...? Good freakin luck!...then I lose my small PB Tang, AND the exquisite wrasse I just bought, plus I have never seen my new Signal Goby again...THEN the light burns out OR it's the ballast AGAIN on my 14g Biocube actinic, so it's sucking big in 3 tanks now...the FOWLR chugs along...and quits. The pump ( Reeflo Dart ) which is the ONLY pump for the tank decided to QUIT...just makes a horrible noise for the day (after we put in an urgent plea to Mike again at HR when it started) and dies....luckily no loss of livestock...YET Oh yeh, and being in Campbell River on the Island we have NO resources...everything must be flown here if it's urgent or good ol snail mail. Somedays I do wish I lived in Van!

And we're supposed to go on holidays in 2.5 weeks??????? And leave our tanks with a very caring but zero knowledge friend...oh man can it get worse? I know..it could be much worse...but right now this totally sucks and I know that there are many many much worse stories but I'm choked! Sorry, I had to vent.....I don't often but I'm not a happy reefer!

I feel for you, and I really hope that you can get replacement everythings in time for you to go and enjoy your vacation.

Sorry to hear that I guess it's true what they say "when it rains it poors" Hopefully your items will come soon

Tangman 08-08-2007 03:39 AM

Sorry to hear about you tank problems
Good Luck

Zylumn 08-08-2007 03:53 AM

Hope you can replace everything before your holidays. At least your not getting a phone call about all this while you are on holidays. Best of Luck .
Kevin

Boy oh boy Sarah, that sure sucks...hope all goes well in regards to your upcoming vacation...I believe everything will work out
If it doesn't rain it poors
Best of luck: RJ

Thank You Thank You Thank You ... Hidden Reef, Mike And Dan

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU ... HIDDEN REEF, MIKE AND DAN!

I contacted Mike yesterday (last night actually) about the pump (OK I was panicky but that's just my nature....) and tonight the new pump arrived by air safe and sound and is gurgling away all hooked up and life is good in the FOWLR!

THANK YOU SO MUCH HIDDEN REEF....when you're in a jam there are people who are ready and able to help...I have had several offers from Christy to help me with transporting stuff to the Island and offered lights and such! My husband sometimes wonders why I'm online on Canreef all the time and "talking" to other reefers...now I think he gets it! thank you so much! This is a great community!

SeaHorse_Fanatic 08-08-2007 06:29 AM

Sarah,

I'll be touring the Island with Irene in a couple of weeks. If you need anything transported at that time, let me know. We'll be camping our way up to Cape Scott, but there should be room for some stuff. I will have a spare Mag7 in the next day or two, in case you want to have a spare pump.

After working so much lately, I have to do some work on my tanks too, although luckily no major catastrophes (knock on wood). Good luck with getting everything back to normal.

Anthony

Thanks Anthony! I appreciate it! I am hoping that we will be in town when you come through! We haven't taken a scheduled holiday since the winter of '04 so this is very needed....wish I hadn't had to deal with all this stuff before we go...but oh well, better now than in 3 weeks with a panicky tank sitter!

Cameron 08-08-2007 07:27 AM

are more than 120v going into your stuff?

Renegade 08-08-2007 01:58 PM

sry to hear that really sucks. Are you regulating you power with high quality power bars by any chance? i'm wondering if your getting funky power or if your just simple not getting "very clean" power lots of spikes take wear on equipment.

Kyle

Chaloupa 08-08-2007 02:20 PM

2 of the 4 tanks are in different rooms, and the power bars are top quality. I don't think it's an electrical issue...I think it's just plain old bad luck.

I agree I think this is a great community as well. To me it's like a little on line family that's always willing to help out in a pinch.

Update on disaster!

Figured I should update my disaster thread........

Ballast for Aqualight Pro.....RECEIVED today from J&L! Thanks J&L I really appreciate all the help with getting it from ESU, dealing with them and making sure we got it right away.

Dart Pump for 120g; replacement sent back as it leaked (5 days prior to vacation)......THANKS J&L for the new one and speedy service! NO LEAKS and it is perfect! We left on vacation knowing that tank would be just fine!

Biocube light issue; solved by new bulb I was able to get IN TOWN..ok for us that is a great feat sometimes!

Back from vacation and I gotta say THANKS to "ldzielak" for checking out the issue with the 65g....the house-sitter sort of forgot about that tank, sump ran dry and pump was run dry...was a horrible noise (we weren't home but my Mom got home and checked the noise....it was loud!)....Lee came over, checked it out, got it going enough to work properly and decrease the sound, and now we got a replacement pump from...you guessed it...J&L! Arrived today with the ballast....AGAIN a huge thanks to J&L for all the help and the excellent products and service over the last few weeks.

Other than that the only tragedy while we were gone was the loss of my new Hawaiian Flame Wrasse @ $130.00 boohoo  (I can't say that the house-sitter fed them much as a few skinny tummies were noticed, but water was topped up daily.......) and the loss of the odd acro or SPS frag as it was toppled over onto the sand bed when she got the wrasse out and left that way in the dark.......so they bleached and look poorly! But all in all, I don't have a vacation horror story (thank goodness) and a huge thanks to Shaun and Jim for being on my list of emergency tank contacts!

We got the idea from Cprowler about a tank instruction manual; when he was leaving on extended trips he did a book on caring for his tank for his wife...so we did our own and it really really helped us out! We had a section for each tank with pictures of the fish in the tank (so a head count could be done daily) and special instructions. It helped I think.....as no big problems noted! My husband laughed at me as I am a bit, shall we say "overly zealous" or detailed...or something... about the manual...but hey, no tragedy! And no questions were left for our house-sitter to wonder about!

So all in all things are looking up!

Glad to hear that
