Next order of business for the Calgary Reefers is to order some of this mysis from deepblueaquatics.

I'd like to get the ball rolling on this as soon as possible. Please email me (or post in here) how much you would like, and I will contact Kyle with our order. Please check the marketplace forum for the thread to see the price (I beleive it was $40 for 5lbs, which would be the equivalent of 10 8oz. bags).

I use 8oz bags of the Piscine Energetics brand (of which is supposed to be the same that deepblueaquatics is selling) and I find that I go through one of these bags about every 6 weeks. I am a light feeder (I only have 3 fish, a yellow tang and two percs), so you may find that if you have more fish, or bigger fish, or other things that may eat mysis (e.g., anemones, LPS, sandbeds, ... ?), you will likely find you will go through an 8oz. bag pretty quickly.

I would like to get going on this soon, because I don't know if Kyle has an unlimited supply. He may run out for all we know at this point! So get in touch with me soon with how much you'd like.

cheers

I'll confirm the prices once I have actually had a chance to talk to Kyle. I assume those numbers are correct, plus some surcharge presumably for shipping (which hopefully will be insignificant).

Anyone else? Keep them responses coming ... :D

Hi Tony. I believe (not beleive) you can put me down for 5 8 oz bags also. And BTW there is not a brittlestar to be seen. You probably gave them all to Alan :(

Yes Bob Please Tell us.
How's your freebies doing?

Do I detect a note of nastiness there?? The only saltwater live stock I received were the polyps from Tony. I reported elsewhere on that. My report on the FW livestock is on the FW forum. I do not call Caulerpa livestock, and there were no Brittlestars, so it was plant material. If anyone feels I received too many freebies, I have offered mushrooms. :D

That was much to cryptic, I don't get it

Whoa, guys. "Nastiness" is verboten. I think we can assume a lack of such intent. I'm just curious to see how everybody's "stuff" is doing today. All my freebies are doing great - I think - and I am indebted. Thanks again.

Does anyone run multiple devices on these appliance timers? I have a 3-way plug with lights and ph plugged into one, and the timer stops after the lights shut off at night.

So I come home to actinics only. Not good. Bad timer? Not meant for more than 1 plug in?

Crap!!!!!
Alan does the ballast Work now??
Reason is when we wired the ballast we did not ground the ballast, there was only a 2 prong plug.
hope it is working now!
Oh i have 5 of my lights on 1 timer and 2 on the other, no problems here.

Jon:

The ballast is working, but not when the clock on the timer stops turning. May have a defective unit.

Is it too late to put a 3-pronged plug onto that thing? Maybe for the next one. ;)

(These smilies are gettin' old...)

Ahh so you have a defective timer than.
No it is not too late at all to put a 3prong plug on the set up. just purchase a 3prong cord if you dont all ready have one. and we can wire both ballasts to it. oh

To all: Who was being nasty? I missed something.

Bob: You know ... mushrooms! (Apparently some people enjoy these ... or so I've been told ... for .. um ... consumption?) Just my attempt at being funny ... I guess that one didn't work .... :(

Also to Bob: I feel bad you got no brittle stars. Trust me, there aint no shortage where they came from. You want some, you got some. Next time I'm up your way, or next time you're down my way, we will correct this. Promise. 'K? ;)

To Alan: My guess is you've got yerself a bunged timer. I'm having some trouble with some of my older timers, mostly in terms of losing some time, but hey, they've given me as long as they have they don't owe my much anymore. But it does show that they have a finite useful lifespan, sounds like yours might have had a useful lifespan somewhat "more finite" than perhaps others.

To all: I thought you absolutely have to ground your electronic ballasts (and the fixtures, reflectors, etc.). Those things tend to emit quite a lot of EM otherwise (I have not tested any of these T8 ballasts myself; I have none), but generally speaking anything electronic not properly grounded/sheilded tends to be just screaming when on. This is probably not relevant to anything in this thread (good grief, is this the MYSIS thread? WHOA TANGENT...), so I will stop talking now.

Anyone else (VDHD? Carpentersreef? Spikehs?): please get in touch me with soon if you would like some mysis. It's a great deal, if you're on the fence you're welcome to just get a bag or two, and give it a try, and see how you like it.

From my textbook "Applications of Electrical Construction. "Rapid start fixtures take advantage of the voltage that exists between the cathodes and the metal frame of the fixture. For that reason ALL rapid start fixtures (bulbs) MUST be grounded or starting failures may occur"

As to nastiness, I read something into Jonathan's post, which says "Bob, how are your freebies doing" It somehow made me feel guilty for getting free livestock.

BTW guys the new Xanium H2 bulb is installed. Awesome colors on my corals. The mushrooms now have green tips, and the Zoanthids the same. My green star polyps are now GREEN. I will post pics on my site in the next few hours.

Jon, that is always a problem with this type of communication (that includes email) It is very easy to misunderstand the other person's intent. Something posted or emailed in all innocence can very easily be misunderstood by the recipient. Putting an emoticon with the post is supposed to obviate the problem, but does not always work. A classic example is my picking on spelling errors. I am in no way being mean or indeed superior, I just don't want to wade through reams of badly misspelled words, as so often happens. :D
