Hey great to hear a reply! The color is a light purply color. I have 2 frags about 2.5 inches tall i believe 1 on rock and one on a shell. i also have a single pod they droped that is really small. i would sell the 2 larger ones for $20 each if that is reasonable? Where do you live?

hey,

I'm in lake bonavista.....u?..that does sound find for frags, i am really interested, but i feel i should get my halides first, before i get any light loving corals (right now i just have red shrooms, gsp, and a tiny bit of xenia). I am hopping to have the halides up and running in about a month or less. would you mind holding on to them for a bit?....

I am in Evergreen.....beside Bridalwood. so pretty close.
What type of lighting do you have now?
In my 90g( 24" high) they are under 450w of overdriven NO bulbs. they used to be under 8 No bulbs which was about 250 watts. So depending on your lighting they may work but i would not mind at all holding them for you. they will just be bigger when you get them I have only had this increase in lighing for about 10 days and man the corals are loving it! i'm very happy i did it. any way shoot me an email if you want, i would love to see your tank!

hey,

right now i just have 4 crappy no's over a 80 gal tank (4feet x 2feet hight x 16inches deep, i think). that would be awsome if you could hold the frags, hopefully by then i could frag my gsp's, red shrooms, or button polyps....all are kinda small right now, but it a bit u never know..Being a college student, money is a little low right now (with school being so busy) so i am hoping for the reflectors in a month or so...But if you wanted to trade with someone i know delphinus is looking to trade, try him. if you have pics, i would love to see em.

I don't think colts are too light demanding. I had a colt that started as a 1" piece that under 4x40W NO, pretty much grew itself out of the tank (at least 16" or so) within ... I think it was about two years. It wasn't purple though! Kewl! It was kind of orangy.

well, in light of that info maybe i can, as i have a ledge thats right at the top where i could place it for the mean while.....delphinus, had any luck getting anyone together to trade frags??

Like i said earlier dont mind holding them for you at all. in regards to lighting have you herd or read the threads about overdiriving NO bulbs. i only mention this because it is what i am doing?
I dont think you would have a problem though. i agree with delphinus as they are not very light loving.
Hey delphinus The 75g tank cleaned up very nicely. used a razor and scraped the paint off the side and re siliconed some of the joints.
Cheers guys!
PS i will post a pic when i get home tonight.

I haven't been able to attach pictures either. (I could be wrong but) I think the only option is to have an existing website, put the picture there, and then link to that. (Which almost sounds like work! Oh well, one day I'll get off my butt and start up a webpage ... until then .... no posting pictures for me!)

Canadian: Glad to hear the tank is in a good home!

Spike: Well, since we last talked ... I, um ... met Canadian Man ... who I guess you've kinda met already ... well basically it seems to me we have enough people to trade frags with, just not frags maybe to be trading around (I shouldn't say that. Sounds like for softies there's a fair pool for trading!) Other than the softies maybe our first order of business for our psuedo-club should be a group order?!? (* too bad I'm still broke from my "Boxing Week Specials!")

PS. I heard back from Eli. Seems his computer was down. Sounds like he's bringing in a bunch of things, I think I might see what I can get from him. I should have learned my lesson about clams before, but maybe .. it's time to try again?

Kinda a long story. I haven't had a whole lot of good luck with clams. The first one I bought lasted 1 day. Turns out that one of the snails I had that I thought was nassarius, was something called "Atlantic Oyster Drill" (after doing piles of research on the 'net!).

I had three at one point, all doing well, one for over 2 years in fact, but something happened that I can't quite figure out. Something crashed. First the crocea started to decline, and I wasn't able to turn it around, and I lost it. Then my maxima started showing the same symptoms, and eventually I lost that one. Last to go was the derasa. I couldn't quite figure out what went wrong, so I vowed never again to try another clam until such time that I knew a lot more about reefkeeping ....

... I'm not entirely sure that I know more now than I did then, so maybe it's not such a hot idea for me to rush in and try another! But prices Eli was quoting is hard to ignore .... Wai's has two T. crocea's in right now, a 2" for $200 and a 4" for $250 .... just for a quick comparison, I think Eli mentioned to me about $60. So it sounds like a pretty good deal!

yea for 60 dollars it sounds like it may be worth another try but i myself would not spend 200-250 on a clam after hearing your experience

No ... indeed, even if I had "good" experiences I would have a hard time buying one at that price. That's a serious investment in ONE animal!

I have a VERY hard time beleiving that Danny will be unloading those clams anytime soon. Then again, he probably has quite a few customers with deep pockets .... what can you do....

I think I need to make some room in my tanks. I get thoroughly depressed looking at my overcrowded systems and the state of some of the things growing in there on account that they're just too crowded.

So ... I have the following things to offer:

- green hairy leather frags
- purple acropora frags (this is a really keen purple acropora, nice grower, quite hardy compared to some of its acro brethren to be sure)
- pipe organ (some people call it cloves ... I think it's pipe organ.)
- xenia
- purple mushroom
- some kind of finger leather or devils hand (has not yet been fragged, but could be fragged if someone wants a piece of it!)

Never really thought an asking price ... maybe $5 to $15 (depending on the piece and size)?

I'd probably prefer trades, if you didn't mind hanging onto the "tradee" until I can solve the microbubble problem in my new 75g setup. (Man, I would pay REAL MONEY to get this microbubble problem licked. I'm beginning to think that given the tank size, bulkhead size, sump size, and pump that I'm using ... is just a flawed design. I don't know where I'm going to go from here.) Nothing like a milky-white water column from all the micron-sized bubbles circulating through the sump and tank, never reaching the surface to escape. ARRRGHGHGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

wouldnt mind at all would love to get some more variety in my tank. how long have you had your bubble problem for? what is the set up like? maybe i can give you an outside opinion and spot something you may have not noticed?

Hey Delphinus,

I'm new to this whole canreef thing. There is absolutely nobody in Edmonton that does reefkeeping (well I know a few) so that's why I'm in the Calgary discussion (my home-town is Calgary) I had a microbubble problem for quite some time....annoying isn't it? Do you run an inline pump or submersible one? I find that if it's an inline pump...silicone anywhere that draws water in...it might not leak, but it's sucking a tiny bit of air from somewhere. it worked for me, but took quite a while before I could silicone everything and finally overcome the problem.

Delphinus 03-04-2002 01:06 PM

Thanks for the suggestion, Dez! I was wondering about doing something like this. It is an inline pump. I used PVC cement for all my seams but maybe I've missed a tiny spot? Or my unions aren't perfectly tightened or something. I'm actually in the process of gearing up mentally to the task of replacing my sump with a larger version. I have a 40g sump I could use, but the problem is I have to drain my tank because the only way in and out of the stand for the sumps is through the top (next time I will design my stand differently...)

Have you met Duane up in FtSask? I traded some frags with him about a month or two ago (I was up in the Edmonton area ... actually it looks like I might need to go up to Edmonton again this week for a couple of days..)

Do you need a place to stay? You're welcome to crash at my place if you need a place. I have a couple of guest rooms. You can check out my system. I have so much silicone on my little giant pump... it took me about 4-5 times before I finally got rid of the micro-bubbles. my e-mail is desmondtse@cma-seac.org. e-mail me and maybe we can hook up in Edmonton.

Well I don't have a lot of things to trade. (Tony knows how little I really have). :( I do Have a Green Frilly Mushroom that likes to take over. I also have Green Star Polyps that have overgrown their rock. The same with some Colonial Polyps. As to posting pictures, you must have them stored somewhere in order to post them. Then just use UBB.

You can look at my stuff at http://www.therockies.com/rcipema

I'll post a picture of my nano just to try

You Calgary-area people are very encouraging! Please keep me in mind as I get my tank set up, cycled and stable.

Look forward to meeting some/all of you. For the first while, I don't expect to be trading much, just growing. ;)

I appreciate the compliments, but I am not sure if you are speaking of the pic I posted, or the whole setup as posted on my site. I have upgraded the refugium to a 15 gallon high (mainly because it was just sitting around) I am not sure about the PC lighting in my 33,(it is GE Super Daylight at 9325K) I could change to Smartlights, but they are a shade too long for the top. Everything in there is doing very well (except the Xenia). The Xenia does fine in the nano. The Frilly Green Mushroom is always getting out of hand, and the Colonial polyps are fine too. I would love to get some Colt from the person offering it for sale. In my main tank I have something purchased from Big Al's. It was invoiced as Baby Leather. It has not as yet been Identified. It might be Colt.
