digital-audiophile 02-10-2006 08:06 PM

I'm looking forward to wearing my team canada jersey tomorrow without having to hide it under a winter jacket :)

TheReefGeek 02-10-2006 08:08 PM

We are above zero here too this weekend, and not a snowflake in site. Kinda depressing actually!

SJSobczyk 02-10-2006 08:09 PM

TheReefGeek 02-10-2006 08:21 PM

Is this "Edmonton" place I hear people speaking of not a large shopping mall to the north of me? :)

TheReefGeek 02-10-2006 08:39 PM

Yep, its just the largest mall in the world surrounded by a couple huts. Er, igloos I meant. lol

SJSobczyk 02-10-2006 08:50 PM

Well did you know:

The TransAlta Stage is the largest outdoor production facility of its kind anywhere in the world. The cost of the project was in excess of $6 million.

During the Stampede, approximately 1,844,286 Mini Donuts are consumed.

Caravan Committee Stampede Breakfasts consume more that five tons of pancake batter, two tons of bacon and sausage, 5,000 bottles of pancake syrup and 85,000 containers of juice.

Harry the Horse Mascot makes 75 appearances during the 10 days of Stampede and wears size 38.5 shoes.

The Calgary Stampede is Canada's largest annual event.

In October 2005, the rodeo prize money was increased to $1.6 million with $1 million of that being paid out on Final Showdown Sunday.

In 2005, attendance for the 10-day event was 1,242,928.

The Stampede Casino needs nearly six tons of coins to open and operate.

Calgary's economic benefit from the Calgary Exhibition & Stampede is $300 million annually.

Some of these facts really gross me out!

Sorry to burst your bubble but Edmonton doesnt even have the worlds largest mall anymore . Beijing's Golden Resources Shopping Mall, opened in October 2004, is the world's largest. And this year an even bigger one is opening in United Arab Emirates. And Berjaya Times Square is Malasia is also bigger then West Ed so i guess you guys have to settle for 4th. Oh yeah and GO Flames Go.

Doug 02-11-2006 01:59 PM

I have a honkin snowblower.

and here I though we would not have as much snow this winter the way it started out.

Serves me right for moving somewhere at a higher altitude. Well for here, , nothing compared to out west.

geopod 02-11-2006 02:54 PM

sean,

i was gonna mention that Dubai was building the bigger one too.I was just there and seen the plans of the new mall and it is gonna be crazy huge

george

Beermaster 02-11-2006 03:06 PM

I havent even be able to start my sled this year, we havent even had 1" of snow total yet this year, it totally sucks!!!!!!!!!!

and on that note, any one want to buy a sled, or trade for a quad lol

Skimmerking 02-11-2006 05:00 PM

OH being on T-3 's for my back operation I wish I could spell SLED. haahah.....

HE he he just a joke here.

Wait til i tell Tammy that I'm saving up to buy a 96x24x24 tank for my Butterflyies and tang's hehehehehehehehe

Skimmerking 02-11-2006 05:06 PM

Oh ya there george, When i get a chance to come up to
Edmonton we are going to have to get together to go reef visiting to some places around Edmonton ok..

I don't know if you can handle hangin out with a Artillery SGT thou..

holy Crap 1598 posts 2 more to go time for post padding

I doubt it

TheReefGeek 02-11-2006 06:43 PM

We'll see if the Dubai mall ends up larger or not.

Mall of America was also PLANNED to be bigger than West Ed too, but didnt turn out that way!

It never was the "worlds" largest, only the largest in north america.. but I hear they are planning on building one in the US that is even bigger.

Actully it held the title of worlds largest for nearly 20 years.

TheReefGeek 02-12-2006 04:55 AM

I dont think there is any larger mall outside of North America

Considering the Oriental Plaza was built in the 70's and has a total area of 800 000 m^2 I would say you are wrong.. I was a Edmontonian for most of my life and I am just as big of a chest thumper as any other Albertan and I will be moving back when I retire but lets keep our chest thumping backed with facts.. and yes this means Calgarians cannot talk about wanting a professional hockey team anymore:wink:

Steve

TheReefGeek 02-13-2006 03:13 AM

I beg to differ! West Ed is the largest mall in the world, unless the Dubai mall is actually completed larger in 2008.
