35 minutes and 67 pictures later, I've finally gotten a good shot of the little guy (<2").

buddy

Hey Albert........cuttlefish?

SeaHorse_Fanatic 05-17-2005 09:59 AM

Love those guys. Had an octopus once that hid all the time. Would love to try a cuttlefish some time in the future. Cool buddy. Good luck with it.

He looks great  Hard to keep so I've read

I was in Safeway one day and overheard the PA talking about a delicasy (sp?) dish they were selling that had cuttlefish in it. Just another reason I don't eat seafood!

Those guys are so cool...
What are you feeding him Albert?

albert_dao 05-17-2005 09:52 PM

Yup, it's a cuttlefish.

Right now, he's on amphipods, ghost shrimp and... gorilla crabs, haha.

I've got 15 camel shrimp coming in to live with him this Friday. I tried dropping in a monkey shrimp (Saron) but it was too big. Hopefully, the camels will prove a bit less trouble to work with then the ghost shrimp (3 hours of acclimating is such a pain).

Would love to see a movie of your cuttlefish swimming

Delphinus 05-17-2005 10:32 PM

I didn't notice the size at first.

Wow.

Good luck with it! What's its natural expected lifespan?

whaase 05-17-2005 11:46 PM

Here's one in action. Make sure you have Quicktime.

Cool, Walter  Didn't know how they got around or how they ate. Amazing animals

THAT'S CRAAAAAAAZY!

Flamboyant cuttlefish.

Anyway, from what I've read, this guy probably doesn't have much more then 4-10 weeks left in him. They just grow really rapidly, then die of old age. Must suck eh?

albert_dao 05-19-2005 04:04 AM

Here's another shot of the guy looking sneaky in the macro's.

Is there anything they won't go after? Like.... say... fingers?

Walter

Invigor 05-19-2005 04:53 AM

i have a bird that could use his skeleton in 4-10 weeks ;)

just kidding!

that's quite the neato creature you've got there.

albert_dao 05-31-2005 01:31 AM

Check out the very first pic in the thread for a size comparison. Crazy!
