Halide fans for canopy
I'm looking for two fans for my canopy to cool my medal halides, any ideas?
Does any one have any kicking around Cheers Tyler |
Computer fans maybe? I'll check in my garage to see if there's some there.

computer fans are the way to go. it all depends on how much air you want to move and how loud of a fan you can withstand. you can also speed ajustable 80mm fans. svc are the fan gods. http://www.svcompucycle.com/fans1.html check them, if you see something good im sure you can find it localy for 3 times the price

Princess Auto also has a good selection of fans in their surplus section.
www.princessauto.com Not sure if there's an island location though. |
I bought a bunch of 4" fans off of ebay. I have sold them all except two. They have never been used, PM me if you are interested.

Try this guy out . Look at his other fans as well. The ones I bought are very quiet. He is great to deal with. These fans are his smaller ones but if you look on his store you see 4+ inch ones and some that are variable speed. HTH  |
probably the most silent fan in the industry that still moves an acceptable amount of air is the "Panaflo L1A". it is insanly quiet if thats what your looking for.

I bought a 80mm Vantech Stealth Smart Fan for my HTPC. I haven't installed it yet. It is suppose to be variable speed with temp sensor so it speeds up when it is hot. But I'm not sure if this is a function of the computer's motherboard or if the fan has the speed control built-in.
They are suppose to be super quiet and have ball bearings for longer life. Its $10 at NCIX and $15 at other places I've checked. http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...inorcatid=1164 http://www.vantecusa.com/review/popr...h_casefan.html Oh, and the 92mm version is suppose to be even quieter but I haven't found a cheap source yet. |
all this quietness is great but what kinda flow do they have, I was not impressed with the panflo's output from what I could tell on there site.

For another source of computer fans. Maybe get one of those aluminum fans... it would look pretty snazzy  . I used to run one on the heatsink of an older computer of mine... if it can cool down a cpu to decent temperatures, it'll do just fine on a canopy setup  -Rich |

By the way, any suggestions on how I can cleanly connect a computer fan to a power cord and what kind of cord I should get and where? |

i have a big bastard of a fan i have mounted in the back of my hood that i flip on sometimes when im heading out of the house. its a scary number that would decimate the produce section at save on foods in about 3 seconds. i can triple my evap with this baby but i can't have it running while im in the house. |

I get a lot of CFM out of my fans, about 150 cfm I think. but they are quieter then my skimmer so I don't realy notice them at all.
