Alternatives to Photobucket for image sharing

I just discovered that Photobucket no longer allows free image sharing, is blanketed in advertising and extremely buggy. I've got around 1000 pictures on that site that I've been linking to my posts here and elsewhere for about a decade that are now trapped unless I pay something like $400 annually. What sites do everyone else use to upload and share images in online forums?

WarDog 07-06-2017 01:38 PM

I use Flickr.

DKoKoMan 07-06-2017 03:58 PM

I have been using TinyPic.

Using flickr, no complaints other than it needs a yahoo account I believe.

I switched to Flickr for that very reason Russell

Interface takes some getting used to but it is fast and stable

I'd love to know what you're doing right. All of my posts show broken links because of this...

Cut and pasted from their site: "Each individual Member gets one free account that provides 2 GB of free storage or space available for your original photo files, or videos under 10min. The free account does not allow any image linking or 3rd party image hosting. If you are interested in image linking and/or 3rd party image hosting, you will need to subscribe to one of our Plus Accounts described below. "

"o Plus 50 Plan: 52 GB of Storage for $59.99 / Year. The Plus 50 Plan does not allow any image linking or 3rd party image hosting.

o Plus 100 Plan: 102 GB of Storage for $99.99 / Year. The Plus 100 Plan allows for unlimited image linking but does not allow 3rd party image hosting."

I'm not paying $100/year, sorry old posts. Hello imgur!

I can't help you Russel, but my PB account is still good here too.
I've been using it for about 6 years now, have used approx. 2.5 gig, and it tells me my storage is 64% full.
I'm able to link all my photos and vids.
I've had good luck contacting them in the past. Maybe you could salvage your broken links by contacting their support ... ?

I have 7 gigs of free space due to being right place right time with photobucket several yrs ago however in the last 2 years PB won't upload images, video files over 2 minutes long take up to 4 hrs to upload and if I tried to pst on some forums or Facebook pages I would occasionally be denied posting privileges including both on Canreef and Canreef FB

So last year I switched to Flickr aside from a picky user interface I've had zero issues posting

I've been using either my Windows Live or Google+ accounts. Both offer a generous amount of free bandwidth for files/photos and they are unlikely to go away any time soon. Another forum I'm on is more difficult to share photos on with G+ so I use Windows Live (One Drive) which has an <embed> option. Works very well and allows you to resize the image when generating the link.

Bugger 07-08-2017 01:36 AM

Photobucket changed 3rd party viewables now none of my photo show up

gregzz4 07-13-2017 12:46 AM

Looks like my images are about to go away too.
Got the e-mail from PB today. I'd be willing to pay $20/yr but $400? Go pee up a rope. I see them losing enough clientele to then lose their advertisers.
VERY smart business move

I think TinyPic is a branch of photobucket and it seems to be working fine. Had to give up photobucket as the ads would crash the computer and phone.

Ok, I shall repeat.... why restrict yourself to photo specific cloud storage when there are much better, unlikely to disappear or change drastically options from major players like Microsoft, Google, Amazon.....?? As mentioned most of these come with more free storage than the photo cloud rip off artists and you have the option to store & back up many other file types other than photos. They also allow you to access files pretty much anywhere you have an internet or smart phone connection.

Here's a link to a review of the major 'players'. A good chart showing options for free storage & what it will cost if you need more.

https://www.cnet.com/how-to/onedrive...right-for-you/

As mentioned in my previous post, I have Google Drive & Windows One Drive. More storage then I'll ever use for free. And again, I've found the Microsoft One Drive <embed> feature the most flexible & best method to link photos on forums etc., once you figure it out....

Hello

I just learned that Google Photo has unlimited storage recently.

Titus

gregzz4 07-28-2017 02:49 AM

Photobucket keeps e-mailing me stating my account will become limited, but currently my pics still work.
Either I haven't been slated for the chopping block yet, or they are working on it ...

I've mentioned this before but will say it again. I'd be perfectly happy giving them $20/yr to keep hot-linking active. If not, well, go ahead and kill all my links from the last, jeez, 10-15 years? Been a long time and there's tons of pics on DIY sites. Car and truck sites, PC building/overclocking sites, Woodworking sites ... I have no idea how many. Suffice it to say more than a couple.

Yup, you guys will be loved by me if you cut us off.

I just noticed today that all my (and everyone else's) photos have been nuked from all the forums. Wow, just wow.. I am with Greg on this one. I don't mind paying for a service like this, but $400USD (yearly is a bit steep). So Long Photobucket, and thanks for all the fish (pics).

Furreal? I have pics on there that I don't have copies of...

In this digital world where technology always fails I am missing thousands of photos. Even my external hard drive with 15 years of photos crashed (which costs $750 to recover btw). My baby pics?? Still in tact.

Brunz 08-17-2017 02:00 PM

this is the problem when we don't have hard copies of everything. Our legacy in the future will literally just be a collection of make America great again hats and Canada 150 flags.... go us!!

Ya I've learned that lesson! I have photos stashed in multiple places. 1 primary photo hard drive where I process and edit all my photos. 1 secondary backup hard drive/server and backed up archival copies on CDs. I'm both anal and paranoid. Mostly because I've worked in IT all my adult life and know exactly what can/will inevitably go wrong with all manner of technology.

titus 08-27-2017 04:22 PM

Hello

I am paranoid and keep all my photos on my NAS. This week I just replaced 1 disk because one of them is having some bad sectors.

Google Photos is probably the best because you snap on your Android and it automatically syncs. I has unlimited storage as long as you keep it under 12MP. I haven't used it before because like I said I keep it on my NAS but think I should start using it. Lost some photos in between backup once because me and my wife went in the ocean (baby first time swimming so we went straight in to start taking photos and videos) and all photos in both our phone were gone.

But even with Google I will certainly still periodically backup to NAS in case Google decides to change their mind. Who knows. Microsoft decided to pull plug on MSN.

Titus
