As you may already know, in North American reefing, Apex is considered to be the pinnacle of controller and for good reasons.

For someone who is in the market for a controller that provides extensive controls, modular interfacing and online controls/warnings, how would this controller stand up against something like Apex or reef angel? What would be the advantages and disadvantages of getting Aquatronica instead of say Apex standard or Apex gold? Despite being technically sound, European controllers (ex. profilux) has always been very daunting for me so some comparison will definitely help :)

And welcome on board

Already did that for most of the controllers on the market. Why should I do that for Aquatronica? Pretty sure Errico will be able to answer it better :)

gobytron 02-23-2016 06:23 PM

if you already did it for all the other controllers, what's one more?

I would look forward to your in depth report.

Do you have that available somewhere the rest of us could have a look?

I posted here to know about aquatronica and don't want to hijack it in any ways.

Why would I want to write a "detailed report"? Do you write and share "detailed report" on everything you research about in this hobby?

If I did something wrong about being curious about a new product, my apology :) Not interested anymore. Cheers!

Thank you for the interest guys, I am just shipping out some stuff but i will get you a reply shortly. I will try to write up something short. I am not the type to compare units but no doubt Neptune is a fantastic product. Aquatronica has a touch screen though :)

I will follow up shortly..

Here you go,

The Apex controller is for the most part is a duplicate of the older Aquatronica acq-110 and acq-115 controller systems. The Apex adopted many of the hardware layouts and programming features that Aquatronica had been using for over 12 years, including USB type interconnections, powerbars with USB ports, external modules for probes, leak detectors, our own brand of float switch that just plugs in etc.

The Aquatronica touch is a new Generation that goes past both systems by using the best of both the time proven parts of the older Aquatronica, like PowerBars and modules and adds in a new set of features that set a whole new standard.

1) Full 7” color touch screen, see all parameters of your tank at a glance, no need to get out a tablet or go to a computer, everything is right there in front of you, and all of it can be programmed just as easily with or without an internet connection or running any special cloud based software.
Even full color graphs can be displayed on the controller for all probes and sensors. LED lighting can be graphed for each spectrum right on the controller. All of this can also be done on a computer tablet or phone but when your nest to your tank you don’t have to get out an extra device, it’s all their on a high quality color screen.

2) Clear wording of all parameters, probes, plugs, and all other accessories, no symbols on the screen for each parameter or short cryptic 3 letter names. It’s written plainly in front of you so that it’s easy to know all your parameters.

3) Float switches and leak detectors can be plugged straight into the power bars, they don’t require you to spend an extra $75 to hook up a leak detector and Aquatronica does not a special box that requires wire stripping and screw terminals to hook up float switches.

4) Apex powerbars can be programmed to fall back to an On or Off state if the controller loses power. Aquatronica powerbars actually have their own internal processor and will continue to run timers and do events even if the power is lost.

5) 2 Real PC USB ports included, along with an SD card slot. All Data can be backed up to either of these and so can your stored graphing information. You can use one USB port to just plug in a $19 WiFi dongle and use wifi to connect your controller to the Net.

6) Aquatronica is fully Plug and Play with its modules, not partially plug and play.

7) With the SMS module which has its own built in battery it can be programmed to contact you in the event of a complete power outage or other alarm when no UPS or other power available. If you do have a UPS it can tell the controller to power down all unnecessary equipment and go into survival mode to stretch out the UPS power.

8) All plug outlets on the power bar are full power connections, none of them are limited to small values like 5A and get can get stuck on by lower power devices, all are 10A with 3000W total capability per bar, and it uses reliable technology with 12 years of real world usage.

9) Four programmable buttons that can be programmed to launch programs such as feed mode or even complicated water change routines.
Event Sequence programming.

10) Programmed reminders of things you need to do on an annual, monthly weekly or on a daily basis. For example change GFO can be set to as a reminder for the 3rd day of each month at 9pm.

11) XYZ programming has been taken to new levels with the Aquatronica touch, it now allows for many multiple devices to become involved in the decision to make something happen.

I will try to get you guys more if you need, but please the website has all this information with youtube videos to enjoy with the kids over some popcorn..

Thank You .

hillegom 02-25-2016 04:52 AM

Haha dang. For a second i was thinking these were a killer deal. Converted... not so much lol.

OCEANVIEW ENTERPRISE 02-25-2016 03:19 PM

Actually the deal is the same pricing as the US but in CDN currency . You need to email me to inquire about the packages.

So yes i would call it a good deal. I want the product in the hands of final users.

Please read up on the products. Many interfaces will be introduced at the Interzoo Trade show in Germany . So if you are looking for a controller I would really look into AQUATRONICA.

Please email me for any questions regarding this limitied offer.

Myka 02-25-2016 03:30 PM

I'm in the market and with the rising cost of Apex, your timing couldn't be better. I'll have to check out your videos and get a quote. :)

OCEANVIEW ENTERPRISE 02-25-2016 04:42 PM

Thank you for your interest. The Touch Screen is the latest model with a new software released. I would suggest that kit if you want the latest gadget with a 7 inch screen. If you just want a controller-tester you can go wrong with the ACQ115.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Errico

mrhasan 02-25-2016 05:52 PM

Eric has been more than helpful and the price that he is giving is really good. I am looking forward to getting mine :)

Aquattro 02-25-2016 06:00 PM

I'm a huge Apex fan, but the feature set on this is very intriguing!

You should probably grab one as a backup to cover your existing and backup apex

Probably not :)

lyall12 02-28-2016 01:41 PM

Woo hoo! Ordered a basic controller unit.

Glad I gave Eric a shout. It should work great on the new tank and give me some peace of mind.

iamfrontosa 02-28-2016 04:59 PM

Only if i havent invested so much into Neptune. Undo the cables alone give me a chill. I will definately go for this over Neptune for my future tanks.

mrhasan 02-28-2016 09:42 PM

I am looking forward to getting mine too :)

The package I got has the controller, temp prob, ph prob, salinity prob, float, ethernet and pc interface and cost me well below the price of an apex gold. It was a no brainer :)

OCEANVIEW ENTERPRISE 02-29-2016 01:25 PM

Thank you guys for the support , I received many orders. What i did not mention is that all the kits, modules, probes etc have a warranty of 2 years !

AQUATRONICA = Warranty 2 years = Canadian Inventory

All warranty is supported by OCEANVIEW ENTERPRISE. I am based In Montréal. Our objective is to make this a pleasurable experience before and after the sale . I appreciate your interest.

Let me know if any of you folks have additional questions, i will try to reply asap.

I bought touch screen deluxe and I love this so far. Errico from OceanView was very nice to dealt with. I'm very happy to choose Aquatronica instead of other controller.
Thanks Errico
Hiro

OCEANVIEW ENTERPRISE 03-15-2016 06:21 PM

Thank you again. Expect new interfaces-modules launching at Interzoo 2016.

I will be there at the booth but i will share all of what i know before then. So expect news in a few weeks :)

SSDiver 04-10-2016 04:18 PM

Received my complete Aquatronica Controller system on Friday. I got a complete deluxe unit with an extra power bar and the leak detector unit.
I will be hooking this system up to my new 180 gal tank build that way I can leave my Apex gold system running on my existing tank and do comparisons.
I will start a tank journal on the new one to show the progress and controller pics.
Very impressed with the look of the components so far and even more importantly extremely impressed with the service and help from Eric. He is one of the easiest and nicest person to deal with.
Thanks again Eric
Mike

hunggi74 04-10-2016 04:50 PM

Will you be having a booth at MACNA? As with everything else for me, seeing is believing. I'm loving it on paper and in the videos.

I totally agreed

I am a bit confused by the Aquatronica website - there is and ACQ 115 and ACQ 130 listed on the comparison chart - with the ACQ 130 having an integrated wifi interface - but on the order page listing prices, there is no ACQ 130 unit - is this unit still available?

Also can you comment on how well this controller works with Mac OSX / iPhones - I live in an Apple house for better or for worse.

It's a web based environment for remote access so Apple environment should be not an issue.

Thanks. Can you also answer the first part of the question?

Not really sure about ACQ130 but pretty sure it is not available in North America.

Oh FYI, the touch controller (ACQ140) has web based and controller based programming (doesn't have any computer software or interface). ACQ115 is controller and PC based (with PC interface module) programming only and don't think MAC supports the PC software. But remote access is web based but you won't be able to program anything via web, just monitor and change plug state.

I run Apple as well, and have it connected up fine now.

I have the 115. I like having the 115 as it has the ability to set much of it direct.

I did purchase the pc interface. I use VMWare Fusion with a windows install to run the pc interface part. Would be nice if they developed a Mac version of the software.

There are a couple of iOS apps. One free and one paid. The free one seems to work better and allows you to override power settings, see what's going on etc. This does require the web interface to work.

Overall, I'm finding it works very well and not having any trouble running with Apple.

OCEANVIEW ENTERPRISE 04-12-2016 05:10 PM

http://aquatronicastore.com/black-box-controller/

ACQ 130 = BLACK BOX
same as the touch controller with no display .

Hope this answers your question.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Touch Review

I'm still getting my touch dialed in. I plan to make a review as well. As a teaser, I currently run a level float (programmed to an ato), pH, salinity, temp (my heater already had a temp controller on it so I programmed my unit to shut off for high temp as a backup). I also bought the leak detector (programmed to shut off the pumps to minimize damage), and the open source dimming module to context my rapidled modded hood to (Running a 28 gallon jbj nano). I have programmed one of the quick top buttons to shut off all pumps and skimmer to allow for feeding the anemones. So far so good. I'll try to get a more in depth review (but my only past experience was a reefkeeper years ago.

So far my only notable complaints are the wifi (It worked for access for a week and quit working via IP connection. I can still log in via wifi and my devices through the open ports) and the power bar. The plugs are so tight together that I bought 4" extension cord jumpers to make larger plugs work.

One could argue that I have gone overboars for a 28gal. The plan is too upgrade when we get the new house in July and move the controller there.
