Looking for crushed coral or small gravel...
 

Im looking for crushed coral or smaller sizes natural colored gravel for a 55Gal African Setup.
If anyone has any they want to get rid of please let me know.

I have about 5-6 liters of crushed coral that I took out of my sump. Its not much but if you want it come and get it. Free :exclaim:

I'm curious though, won't crushed coral cut up the mouths of your cichlids?

I don't have a way of getting it from Calgary though.
If I had a way to get it I would gladly take it.

I have a 15Gal setup right now with Crushed Coral and a couple of cichlids in it and they are doing great.
It has been up for 6 months. (Was supposed to be temp for a month max during renovations... :mrgreen: )

Pool filter sand. Cheap and almost indistinguishable from tanganyikan substrate. Just make sure you rinse it really, really good.

hmm. i haven't tested my pH, but I have pool filter sand in with my oscar :o i was hopin it wouldn't affect the pH.

i got 50lbs for $15 though :)

Im guessing I can find this sand at spa and pool stores..??

yea, i got mine from "penguin pools and spas" here in regina. it's for those huge round filters they use in pools.

however the sand is silica based, not sure if that matters for you..hasn't caused any issues for me :cool:

No body seems to have any right now as its not really the height of the pool season... :frown:

In Calgary I used to frequent Burnco (local rock whole saler) for all of my substrate needs. If you have something similar in Edmonton I would recommend checking it out. You will save a whole lot o cash, $6 filled my 70 gallon african tank. :smile: That included subtrate and rock walls.

I have extra Southdown sand if you need.

where did you get the southdown from? I am thinking about getting some soon

Well, I don't think it is actually southdown sand, though I'm not 100% sure of its origin as I am the 2nd owner.

ah..I see. I'd love to find some, for my next tank.

Don't think we westerners are that lucky to have southdown in our Home Depots...
As far as ive heard its mostly restricted to the Eastern States.
We have the yucky brown play sand here. :frown:

I went with sand blasting silica sand last time. Maybe I'll do it again/

No longer need Crushed Coral or Sand.
