30 gal cube frag tank

I finally got around to tearing down my old planted tank and decide to try and build a stand/cabinet for it. Its a 32 gallon ADA cube Garden 60x45x45 cm. One on the right..

http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/...psfziavcst.jpg

I built a 2x4 frame, then put pine sheeting to cover it up. Threw on some mouldings and ta daa, a new tank stand. I put the sump on a shelf as i want to connect this system to my main system later and i needed it high enough to drain onto my other sump. It is a bit tight but everything fits.

http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/...pswd5tvxnd.jpg

I went with rubble and smaller live rock as i want pieces to glue frags too..and as much as i love the look of sand im still taking it out of my other tank, slow slow process...

Nice tank.Good job on the stand, looks like you know what your doing.

jason604 04-01-2015 07:14 AM

Sweet stand man

Roskoreef 04-01-2015 11:29 AM

Thanks, still have to get some doors on.. I'm happy with the way it turned out. It's not perfect and I learnt a bunch, but for a first go at cabinet making, I'm happy.

Roskoreef 04-08-2015 02:21 AM

fragged some neon kenya tree that was being covered by a carpet anenome and dying slowly, just cut all the branches off and dropped them on to the loose live rock and wait for them to attach.

http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/...psgy7jsojg.jpg

also added a few quiet fish, a multi banded pipefish and a yellow clown goby:

Roskoreef 04-08-2015 02:41 AM

Also fragged some mushrooms. Cut, quarteredand dropped on live rock rubble:

Roskoreef 04-10-2015 11:55 PM

changed it up.. added this sweet neon green clove polyp i think..

http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/...psw0ehj4n3.jpg

just put it in, still opening up.

Roskoreef 04-12-2015 01:13 PM

new tankmates, a long black spine urchin and some blue striped pipefish

http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/...psb0btnfks.jpg

Roskoreef 04-17-2015 03:37 AM

well a seahorse made its way into the little pipefish fam, seems happy, eats mysis and cyclopeeze.

http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/...psl7widka7.jpg

kien 04-17-2015 03:54 AM

wait, isn't this a frag tank ?

Roskoreef 04-17-2015 04:01 AM

Oh yeah frags... Funny you mention it, put in some racks tonight and some tester frags, some rainbow montipora frags and a few acros that have been doing well. we will see if it is ready..

Roskoreef 04-19-2015 01:50 AM

so i think i will fill the bottom of the frag/seahorse tank with gorgonians, some of the frags (montipora and birdsnest) were doing well, but any acro wouldnt open up.. probably because this clown goby kept nipping at the polyps like it was a game of whack a mole..

I see you have a new banded pipe , is the red/yellow still doing good ?
I guess the black and white banded pipes get bacterial infections fairly easy compared to the rest , just a heads up if you are not qt'ing the pipes. How are your blue stripes doing > Are they eating frozen ?
Also after a while my clown gobie started attacking my pipefish so keep an eye on that to

Yeah i guess seahorses and pipefish can get infections quite easily, i should probably take the hammer out, apparently if the start to hitch onto any stinging corals they can get injured.. all the pipefish are doing great, now 1 multi coloured banded, 1 b & w banded,3 blue stripe and 1 dragon head. They all eat tiny pieces of mysis and cyclopeeze and pods of course. The gobys might have to go to a different tank if they become jerks, i will watch them, thanks.

Skimmer Juice 04-19-2015 04:59 PM

oh you have 3 blue strip pipes? If you have 2 males they will end up fighting , 2 females and 1 male is suppose to be ok .
What color marking does the dragonface have on its belly ? I have been looking for a male for my female for a while now . If the mark on the belly is yellow its a female , if its blue it will have a tiny little pouch and will be male.
Good luck with the pipes and the seahorse coolest fish in the hobby Imo

Hard to tell with the blue stripes, they are quite young i think, maybe 3" tops... they seems to get along for now, swimming together and such. I havent seen any agression in this tank thus far. As for the dragon face it is a female for sure, bright yellow markings underneath, took me 15 minutes to see the underside of him.

Roskoreef 06-21-2015 02:22 AM

oh man what to say about this tank... the blue stripes are good and well, dragon face missing, seahorse eaten by donut coral, it as become a hodge podge of dangerous corals and a foot long tube anenome that was eating chromis like candies. Kind of a lost graveyard tank im thinking... skeletons and poisonous/spiny urchins and other oddities.

got some new treasures! a few staghorn hermits, a new rock flower nem and a venus anenome shrimp.. i had a bunch of rubble in my sump so I plopped him right on there.. the shrimp made his way to a alveopora for a bit, then to the nem. The rock flower is blue to purple hueish center with gren tentacles..

What are you doing for the staghorn hermit? Are you going to target feed it?

My son and I bought one of those silly staghorn buggars too. I am target feeding the shell frozen cyclopeeze. My sandbed is pretty healthy and full of life but I suspect it will be pretty tricky to keep the shell alive. Your thoughts?

im not doing anything, nor did i plan too... as far as I have read a long as you have an established tank, good flow(nutrient delivery) and lighting good enough for sps you should be good. I target feed some corals but moestly broadcast feed cyclopeez.. mine are doing ok, one has bumbep up against an acan, shell damaged, not surprised..

Thats good to hear. You mentioned lighting are you suggesting the bryozoans or hydroids on the shell are photosynthetic? Would be nice if they were.

BTW, the tank is looking good!

Thanks! , I only mentioned lighting as alot of what i read kept mentioning similar conditions for sps... They are not photosynthetic, and only filter feeders of plankton... i might start adding some powdered phyto, see what happens.
