Overfeed tank
Anyone have a son/daughter decide to feed the fish themselves? My daughter decided to do just that and dumped a whole container of flake food into the tank... I used a big fish net and scooped as much as I could, but I guess it's water change city for me...

And fast! Go Walter go!! |
hehe mine did that in the fresh water tank but that is the anti algae tank so I just left it and didn't worry about it.. I would have freaked if it was the reef

I had that happen when I was breeding discus, I didnt know it happened untill after work and lost both my pairs in one day. You might consider vacumeing your gravel as well

1st 50% water change done

Can't remember where I read, but someone had a child add sand (catlitter) to thier Nano. Panic would set in real fast.

The tank was so clowdy this morning I could not see anything in it, and the skimmer cup was full. I have to do another water change tonight....

 Hope everything works out for you walter.
Im not sure what it is but the wee ones love to feed the fish... Im going to give serious thought to a lockable "gun cabinet" for supplies when we have kids... |
Sorry to hear that, good luck!
Maybe run some filter floss and some carbon to help clear up the water? |
Hope you don't suffer any casualties, Walter. Funny thing about kids that age when they start taking an "interest" in a tank...
Reminds me of the time my youngest decided that our FW fish looked a little cold - and kindly turned up the heater for them, so they would stop "shivering." |
I'm going to pick up some floss and some new carbon bags. I also need a new bucket of salt... tank is really cowdy, kinda green/yellow color. Skimmer is full again.

At least with a 20g tank 50% waterchanges aren't difficult or expensive.
Good luck! I would almost consider a 100% change. |

Our childern haven't ever over-fed our fish, However, after watching us do several water changes, I guess they decided to do a water change of there own. We have a 25 gal quarantine set up in our office, and one morn. found it milky white in color, absolutely destroyed. Three larger perculas dead. As it turns out, after alot of investigation, we realized our 5 and 6 yr old kids dumped approx 2 lbs. of suger into the tank! I still don't know what the heck they were thinking, and felt awful for the poor fish, and what they must have gone through. Have taken measures to insure this never happens again, but it never should have happened in the first place!

 I finally got the tank cleared up. Just wondering though, my skimmer now fills up with water in about 5 minuts since changing so much water. I tried adjusting it but it does the same... is this normal?

Too much new water syndrome.
Give it a week, it will go back to normal. |
