No2 at 0.3 will my snowflake be ok .

i thought my tank had finished cycleing but after adding my snowflake and some food it went from nothing to 0.3 is this a cause for concern thanks .

I'd maybe do a good water change. Any nitirite at all isn't good.

The other thoughts I had are:

How far can you cut back on feeding temporarily, will once a week feeding sustain the moray?

Will adding carbon or another of the absorbent-type chemicals be of any help?

DEAD_BY_DAWN 08-25-2004 10:21 PM

thanks for the posts,i havent put any food in the tank for a few days now,the moray doesnt seem to be interested in it anyways,i did a 10g wc last night but my readings didnt go down.

Delphinus 08-25-2004 10:31 PM

What I'd consider doing is going out and getting some Cycle and then dumping in a dosage for "new tank."

the guy a the lfs store said not to bother that stuff doesnt work very well,is this the case ?.

Quinn 08-25-2004 10:52 PM

How are you going about feeding the moray?

DEAD_BY_DAWN 08-26-2004 07:26 AM

i tried adding a small chunk of tiger prawn, that didnt get much attention so i tried fresh muscles the moray swam around smelling them but didnt feed, ive added some more clay pots until i can afford some lr.so he now has more room to hide ..

monza 08-26-2004 02:21 PM

You should feed him uncooked shrimp (tiger prawn is fine...$) with some sort of feeding stick. Wave it in front of his face, hold it there, wave it, hold it. He most likely be trained to eat, should be quick because he's going to be hungry.

If he does not eat off the stick remove the food and try again later, repeat...

Try and get live rock with holes in it. PVC pipe works better then clay pots.

Good Luck

Dave

I don't know, I've used it to help a new tank before. I'm sure if it's been sitting on the shelf for too long then it's just water. My take on it is, it can't hurt. Worst case scenario, you're doing is adding a little bit of water.

Quinn 08-26-2004 05:50 PM

What Dave said. My understanding is that they like to see their prey moving.

DEAD_BY_DAWN 08-26-2004 06:51 PM

but at $4.99 for a large bag of tiger prawns its hard to leave any for the fish
btw safeway has them for this price

Quinn 08-26-2004 09:40 PM

By the way, now that your moray is producing the levels of waste associated with his eating, perhaps your nitrite levels will rise even higher. Keep us updated.

DEAD_BY_DAWN 08-29-2004 09:27 PM

thanks for all the posts ,well the moray and the tank are doing 100% better, the nitrite level has dropped to 0,nitrate is holding at 10ppm,i put this down to addtion of another 30lbs+ of ls, i even remembered to turn off the pumps when i was putting it in still ended up with a sandstorm that lasted 24 hours though lol,and another 20lbs or lr (with another 30lbs on the way),as soon as the lr went in the moray started to explore and feed.
