you know you're Canadian when....

...you take your first step outside at 8AM, its below 7 degrees and the first thing that comes to mind is "it's going to be a warm day"

Delphinus 12-19-2013 04:47 PM

LOL, true dat.

I'll take 7 over what we have here this morning!!!! And the worst is, at -20, it's not the coldest it has been in the last few weeks. AND, I hear the amount of snow we've had so far surpasses the record set 112 years ago. *sigh* gonna be a long winter. (Although on the upside, long winters for me means "nicer reef tanks" because they get way more attention..)

Unless you're from the Wet Coast where the mere thought of freezing temperatures invokes terror in all human inhabitants.

Reef Supplies 12-19-2013 04:54 PM

we just finished 4-5 days of -20 not factoring in the wind chill. This is T-shirt weather lol

Why yes! here in Victoria we don't like frost on our palm trees!

jorjef 12-19-2013 05:24 PM

You're all a bunch of fancies. I don't zip up my jacket until -30.

Gotta use the remote start too if it's below 2 degrees

matt_C 12-19-2013 09:34 PM

my favorite is when there's a blizzard out, -35 temp and the tim horton drive-thru is packed!

Treebeard 12-20-2013 04:25 AM

It's been very cold here too. It hit -30 and I had to put on a hoodie to go out and BBQ my steaks! Brrr! Not to mention the hassle it was shovelling the white stuff off the a Weber.

You know you are Canadian when ..... you go across the line and the American border guard calls Canadians '' cheese heads ''. What's wrong with bringing back 6 lbs of cheese each time ?

Skimmer Juice 12-20-2013 05:01 AM

when you're happy gas is $1.05

Dearth 12-20-2013 06:15 AM

Block heaters and dragging the extension cord on the road because you forgot to unplug.

I think the lower mainland is the only place in Canada where block heaters are not used and few know what a block heater is

Dearth 12-20-2013 02:40 PM

You know you're Canadian when you ask

"What do you pay for your hydro?"

Still remember when we had some American friends over, and they didn't know what "hydro" meant...

In the rest of Canada we say "electricity".

TimT 12-20-2013 04:17 PM

You know your Canadian when you know heated car seats are not just for people with back pain.

Reef Pilot 12-20-2013 04:41 PM

Well, you know you are in Vancouver

When you see people walking with umbrellas when it snows.

Second best feature for cars ever... (Remote start being #1 in my book)

Proteus 12-20-2013 06:21 PM

Slush machines are still going strong at -20

spit.fire 12-20-2013 07:07 PM

you know you're in the lower mainland when even the plow trucks are crashing and theres only 2" of snow

Proteus 12-20-2013 07:11 PM

It's funny that the plows are out for only 2"

You know you're a Canadian when you can build an igloo on your front lawn that fits a family of four in Lotus Land North (i.e. Metro Vancouver/Burnaby).

Reminds me of a story of when my Grandpa was stationed at Alert in the mid '70's middle of winter and he said it was so cold that any metal you grabbed virtually shattered due to the extreme cold -50 daytime high equipment that was left outside would break when moved vehicles would literally fall apart from the bumpy roads and the polar bears

hahaha sounds about right!! all our pipe racks are in heated sea cans or as soon as the connections lock up they would crack or shatter, nothing gets shut down or its not going to start again, so far we have had 3 hydraulic rams on the grader that keeps the road from camp to the rig looking pretty just sheer off when he's hit a chunk on ice on the side of the road haha everyday is an adventure haha
