Thanks for looking.

I have to figure out a way to catch my pyramid butterflies. They are starting to cost me a fortune in LPS, zoas & clams. :twised:
It looks like I'll need to invest in a fish trap. Any other ideas?

mseepman 06-03-2012 01:45 AM

Wow Greg...always inspiring to see your success at this glass box stuff. Visiting your old tank in Calgary was probably the largest motivating factor in the new tank I'm putting together. Thanks for the amazing pictures!

Yeah the polyps come out for a day or two usually about once a month. I'm not how it works, maybe goes with lunar cycles or something. :noidea:
It's certainly not the most colorful coral in the tank but is still pretty cool none the less.

SteveConn 06-16-2012 05:40 AM

Amazing corals Greg. I'll have to pay you a visit again after I move (basement=bigger tank!!)

You certainly have a beautiful collection Greg. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks.
I run a mix of 4x 250 w MH -14k & 2x 20K 150 w.
The are also 12 T5 bulbs - 4x 12K, 2x fiji Purple, 2x reef pink, 2 blue plus, 2 actinic.

Myka 07-16-2012 11:25 PM

6 halides? What are the dimensions of your tank? I didn't realize it was that big! Are those Phoenix 14K bulbs?

The main display tank is approx 400 gal. 96"L x 36"W x 27"D
Yes the bulbs are Pheonix.

Myka 07-17-2012 03:36 AM

Wow, big tank. I like and use Phoenix too. Hurry up with the FTS! :D

Snappy 07-17-2012 07:51 AM

The tank is not suitable for an FTS right now. To much stuff going on - egg crate covering some corals to protect from the pyramid butterflies, fish trap trying to catch the same, etc.

Myka 07-17-2012 11:34 AM

Looks like you need a second tank for LPS so this one can be SPS. ;) I finally gave in and did that...

Snappy 07-22-2012 10:17 PM

Here's a few pieces in the frag system preparing for graduation day.
The polyps on this front frag are actually about 1/2" long.

Will you be getting any acans anytime soon.

Snappy 08-12-2012 03:48 PM

After having a fish trap in the display for 3 weeks I finally caught the last pyramid butterfly that I will be taking to the LFS and trading in on some new fish. Those buggers killed several of my clams and most of my prize LPS pieces and cost my an easy $2K in what they destroyed. They were model citizens for about 3 years and then decided they liked to eat coral even nipping at the sps. I had to catch almost every other fish before the stubborn last one would go into the trap so my sump was getting pretty full but things should be back to normal soon with all the other fish returned to the dislay.

Now that I have my butterflies out I can get some nice LPS in again. I will likely be getting some in the near future.
