What calcium reactor ?
Ok folks .
I am trying to decide what calcium reactor i should be buying .I need your help . tank will be a moderately stocked SPS 140 gallon. space is not an issue . I would like to keep the cost of the reactor at 400 or below. I have already budgeted 300 for the bottle reg package etc . Seems to be tons of options out there , but I am having trouble finding any reviews etc . I would like to buy one that is proven and been around for a while i suppose . Do not want to be a guinea pig or anything thanks all |
Adam might have one for sale.
|
ya , he is supposed to send me a pic . etc.
No thoughts on a new one ? |
No, not really sure what's on the market these days. I use a PM knock off that I made, and I'm happy with it, so if that style is still around, I'm sure they're less expensive than some of the newer designs.

Ya . I want simple and solid. I like the geo , mrc , lifereef style of reactors. .
I have never looked into these before . Turns out they aint cheap lol. May have to browse the used world .. |
Ya, your budget is a bit low for a nice setup. Used is hard to find though. Although a used tank/reg should be fairly easy to find. Reactor is a bit harder to find.
|
Add MTC to that list. The ProCal is the best reactor out there, designed so well it can not even be copied with success! Again, not cheap, but with a reactor you want it to work consistently, otherwise you may as well dose.

the only thing that has changed in reactors over the last say 15 years is size, types of pumps and cosmetics. I still prefer upflow as aposed to down flow, and I like two chamber reactors. the MTC does look well built though and you can find them used on e-bay for about 300. |

i used the lowest bubble magus model on my 90. It was good and didn't break the bank.

I cant speak on the quality of many of the others. I used a Geo rector many moons ago, one of his first and have seen many made by aquarists like Steve mentioned that were just as good or better than many. Jeff,s products at Lifereef now cost a bit more because of exchange and the such but hard to find better quality, if that what one is looking for. I also looked at Reef Supplies with a couple models. the have the AquaMaxx at a little cheaper price or the higher end and well built Korallin reactors. I think JL carries the Precision Marine that Brad mentioned. |
I went out on a limb and bought the RLSS CM-6. Been running it now for 4-5 months. The only complaint I have is there were no instructions on set up and I hate thumb screws.

No, I bought it direct after over a year hassling them :(
|
lol , you were persistent eh

Agreed, that is a great price.
Unfortunately I think I am done with vertex products. |

so only one part will fail. LOL |

Think i have narrowed it down to either the GEO 612 , or GEO 618 . the 618 is just 6 inches taller and holds 4 more lbs of media . everything else is identical |

although some of the slip line fitting may need have a small leaks, but nothing a $1 roll of teflon tape won't fix. |
