Thanks for looking!

wow, beautiful corals and great photos. Color is stunning!

Millepora_Maniac 05-28-2011 09:35 PM

Thanks, you'd have been blown away by how brown they were two weeks ago. A whole bunch of water changes and some new ZeoVit, and she's looking good again! I'm going to post back in a month or so with some growth shots so stay tuned in!!

originalozzyo 05-28-2011 09:35 PM

Looks great, word of caution for the future. Get rid of the mushrooms if you are going to keep sps. In the long run they can and will kill your sps and are pain to get rid of and multiply like weeds.
I found out the hard way and lost some nice pieces. :(

I know what you are saying, but these rocks aren't touching the rocks with SPS mounted to them. When the mushrooms get closer to the structure i will move them away and frag them down to stop them from encrouching on my SPS.

Wow what great pics, nice colour you got there.

toytech 05-29-2011 12:44 AM

on it's way soon don't worry, I'm hoping to have some full tank shots next time, right now all it looks like is piles of rocks with a droplet of color here or there.

Great looking corals and nice photography. But as for the mushrooms, they don't need to be touching as more mushrooms bloom they will release from the rock and hide in every nook and cranny until the bloom and multiply there. Yours are beautiful though and I understand the resistance to culling them.

I need to go hunting.

Looking good Ken.

Millepora_Maniac 06-03-2011 11:21 PM

Thanks guys,

Looks like my thread almost got hijacked by the mushroom police!

The shroom island seems to be very popular , i think its a great way to balance out the tank . Yours seems to be well on its way but its hard to tell without a full shot.

HI Kevin,

I have a 1.5 liter zeo reactor hooked up running at full bore(Valve full open), with 1 and 3/4 packages of Zeo Lites in it. I have approximately, 240 gallons of water, 33 gallon cube, 180 display, 33.5 refugium and 10-15 gallons of water in my sump/reactors.

I don't use ANY additives at all, no start no Bak, no nothing.

After the stones are seeded you don't really need that stuff unless you are extremely nutrient poor. If you have fish and such, the waste put into the water by the fish is enough to maintain the culture.

Check out Canuckgod420's colors, he does the same, no dose, just the stones or zeolites.

Mine is kind of more like a shroom peninsula than an island, but it is growing in fast.

And don't worry, the full tank shot is on it's way:wink:

Can I ask the deets about your lighting? It might have been said earlier, but I'm trying to be sneaky and posting at work...

Sure thing Asylum,

I run three lumen max elite shades, with Geisemann 20k bulbs, powered by the green Galaxy ballasts. I run one select a watt ballast and another dual 250w for the lamps on the outside.

I also have moonglow lighting hooked up to my digital aquatics controller.

Aquattro 07-05-2011 10:41 PM

Happy with those bulbs? It looks like Radiums might be no longer available in N. America..

asylumdown 07-05-2011 11:15 PM

Brilliant, thanks!

I am extremely happy with these bulbs, I used to use the 14500k bulbs, but the 20's are perfect, not too much blue, but just enough so that you don't need to suppliment with actinic or blue+

I would suggest these bulbs to anyone who likes color and doesn't want to sacrifice growth (So pretty much anyone who wants SPS)
