Very cool.

Looks like they're well done also. Nothing like a new tattoo IMO.

I lucked out and managed to get a full day with Aaron Bell at the end of August.

http://slavetotheneedle.com/tattoos/aaron-bio.asp

He's very sought after and has well over 100 awards to his credit.

I'm looking so forward to my day with him.

Your artist done a great job of packing the white in your flag. All you need now is to follow his/her aftercare procedure and you'll have a very nice tattoo for many years to come.

He does do very nice work. One of my faves of his is a hindu god backpeice. (I think it might be Durga.)

Oh, will have to check it out.....we've been many many times but haven't seen that...he is great!

Aquattro 05-28-2008 04:53 AM

I'll post a pic of my new one soon. Cool story behind it. I'm flying from Cambodia to Thailand, and this elderly Chinese guy sits beside me. He notices I have tattoos, then leans forward and grabs the barf bag from the seat in front of him. He moves away and starts to draw something. As we land about an hour later, he hands me the bag and walks off the plane. He's drawn a really cool Chinese bird on this thing, and well, I figured it was a sign that I should get it inked. Now I'm pretty much out of room...almost :)

G1GY 05-28-2008 05:13 AM

This is the last one that I had completed. It's a cover-up over some other stuff that I didn't want any more.

http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/2346/tat1bw6nl3.jpg

The pic is only the top of the left shoulder and only shows about 30% of the entire peice.

I have a fair amount of other stuff on the go right now also.

Nice to see that there are others at canreef that share this addiction with me.

Chaloupa 05-28-2008 05:34 AM

Gorgeous tattoo G1GY!!!
I had a cover-up done on my leg by Rob....I had this horrible urge at 22 to get a Mickey Mouse on my ankle with my then best friend......(BAD idea) so we aren't friends any longer...ok I married her ex-husband many years later.....but we weren't friends then either (just to set the record straight) and my husband bought me the cover-up (go figure ). It's gorgeous...a dragon from 3/4 of the way down my foot to my knee...did I mention the Mickey Mouse was only 3 inches??? ha ha ha...go big or go home right?! Will have to post pics....I know I have some somewhere....

AND...pics from you too Aquattro! Must have been a sign!!! (psssst maybe he saw a blank spot and felt like you needed some inspiration!)

G1GY 05-28-2008 05:52 AM

Thanks Chaloupa.

Everything on the left side of my body will be dark themed Japanese inspired stuff like the photo. We're just now in the process of covering the right arm with more happy themed stuff.(Koi, wind, water, flowers, goldfish ect...) We're about 15 hours in and have covered an original Smillin' buddha peice so well..... It's like it was never there!

Can't wait to see the pic's of your dragon peice. I love dragons and will add one somewhere in the mix at some point I'm sure.

Der_Iron_Chef 05-28-2008 02:24 PM

Mmmm...tattoos. *gets me to thinking*

digital-audiophile 05-28-2008 02:43 PM

I love the Canadian flag, very well done, it really hase a third dimension look to it.

I still have not got a single tattoo myself, I know what I want, I just need to find the right artist in Calgary that can do it.

Der_Iron_Chef 05-28-2008 02:56 PM

As a side note, I was attempting to entertain myself a few days ago, and Googled "worst tattoos". Wow. My favourite (i.e. the worst) was a tattoo of a naked, traditionally-dressed Native American/Aboriginal woman clinging to a corndog. Seriously...huh?

What type of work are you looking to get done Greg? I might be able to point you in the direction of someone that shines in the type/theme that you're looking for.

digital-audiophile 05-28-2008 04:42 PM

Gary,

Thanks for the offer :)

I have been military history nut since I was a little boy, especially in aviation and dogfighting.

What I want to do is get a photo realistic style back piece, or at least portions of it to start.. on one shoulder blade I want to get a WWI dogfight scene and on the other shoulder a WWII dogfight scene..

something like this

Greg,

Scott Ford at Smilin’ Buddha is a photorealistic artist and does great detailed work.

He has done a couple of mine including this piranha / koi cross:

Pier Pressure 05-28-2008 06:28 PM

I would have recognized that Smilin' Buddha water anywhere! Scott Ford did one for me. I do not have any pictures of it. It is a tribal design with a dolphin jumping in a wave of Smilin' Buddha water. 1.5 hours - first tattoo - go big or go home, for sure.

Brent F 05-28-2008 06:39 PM

This one was 3.5 hours. It's about 6 X 8 inches.

I posted this one because it is the only fish related one I have. The first one I got from Scott is a photorealistic style of an opening showing the nerves, muscles, tendons, bone... under the skin. My chiro said he'd like to use it as a teaching aid because it shows the structure of the joint so well.

Chaloupa 05-28-2008 08:16 PM

My leg was 2 sessions of pain lasting 6.5-7 hours the first time and 6 the second time....but we did have a small snack break of 1/2 hour in the middle of each...UGH it was rough! I'll post pics tonight!

mark 05-28-2008 08:44 PM

the ones here look great but I had to google "worst tattoo".

forgetting about the ones in bad taste, looks like just because someone can tattoo doesn't means they can draw (or spell).

That way of doing water is very old and is a staple of any tradional Japanese art where water is depicted. Many artists do their "finger waves" in this fashion, but some leave the tips of the waves more rounded. The artists that like the sharp tips call the ones with the rounded tips "pecker waves".

What's even funnier is that the tattoos you see with spelling fubars are that way because of the client. Most artists have the client write the spelling for the text on their waiver form.

Canadbis 05-28-2008 08:49 PM

I have found Tattoos to be more addictive than anyhting else I have been into.
No fish as of yet, but I do plan on having a few Channa Bleheri (rainbow Snakeheads) on my left arm. I have a few pictures of mine that I want to mak einto a tattoo. I just got a new one a few weeks ago. EARTH on my lower arm. It is a family tree thing. My kids are Eva, Anna, Rooney. and my last name is THompson so it worked out well. Now to get the tree started around it and add branches as they growup and have theie own kids

I feel your pain.

My left shoulder, shoulder blade and bicep was done in one sitting. This included the cover-up.

Looking forward to the pics.:)

Der_Iron_Chef 05-28-2008 10:54 PM

Yeah...getting tattooed does kind of suck. LOL. But it's worth it :D

Delphinus 05-28-2008 11:29 PM

So if you take a photo to a good tattoo artist, they can turn that into reality?

So if I take a picture of, say, Daniel Craig or Pierce Brosnan, they can make me look like that? I'll settle for a photo of myself from 15 years ago. What about hair? Can they tattoo realistic looking hair on my head since I have none of the real thing left? If they can make it move realistically too that would be worth something to me..

Chaloupa 05-28-2008 11:50 PM

Tony...if they could do that my husband would have signed up YEARS ago! if only!

PoonTang 05-29-2008 02:15 AM

I think one of you crazy people should have a full body tatoo of a SPS dominated reef. Complete with hitch hikers and everything. :twised:

Chaloupa 05-29-2008 02:17 AM

Poontang....you up to pay for it????? I think you may have a taker or two if that were the case!

PoonTang 05-29-2008 02:21 AM

Nope, i cant even afford to buy a decent set of lights for my tank yet. lol
Actually I have thought of getting something small my self with a reef theme to it.

fishoholic 06-02-2008 09:16 PM

Great tatoo's everyone! I've wanted to get a canadian flag on my arm for quite awhile, only I've been to chicken
