Same here, although when I manage to bring her to the lfs she always wants to buy all the "pretty ones"

As long as it is not you she tolerates...thats a good thing.

SeaHorse_Fanatic 02-22-2014 08:28 PM

My wife enjoys the reef tanks. She's actually the one who "insisted" that I switch from fw to sw. She was far more enthused about reefing the first few years but now she is more in her "like but not too involved" stage. My daughter Felicia is far more interested in reefing and enjoys going to LFS and to frag swaps & fish club meetings than anyone else in my family.

Ya, she doesn't have much tolerance for me at all. Apparently I can be difficult..

WarDog 02-22-2014 08:37 PM

My wife was against my transition from fresh to salt mostly because of the cost. However, now that the tank is almost ready to get wet, I find her more and more interested. She has started to contribute ideas about stocking lists. I suspect in a couple years she might want her own tank (she seems to like seahorses a lot).

Reefer Rob 02-22-2014 08:53 PM

My wife enjoys looking at the tank, and it was partially her idea to get the larger tank. Her only real involvement is to stop me from doing stupid things... which of course is invaluable.

My wife use to sit in the truck while I was at lfs sending endless text on how she's ready to go. Lol

But since she's gotten her own tank she enjoys it more and I get two tanks maintain :-)

smokinreefer 02-22-2014 09:03 PM

my wife bought our (last, just retired it and upgraded to a 65) tank for me as my wedding gift almost 5yrs ago.

she knew I enjoyed the hobby even though we didn't have a tank in our home.

she even surprised me with a mystery wrasse for valentines a couple years back!

and now, I enjoy it more knowing I have her and the kids to share it with!

Jaws 02-22-2014 09:05 PM

I couldn't imagine having a wife interested enough to share half the responsibilities with. That would be amazing.

My wife loves the sw tank. She just wants pretty fish haha

Reef_Geek 02-22-2014 10:08 PM

my wife and I are technically both marine biologists. We both got our BSc in marine bio... I was a fourth year and was her TA when she was in her second year. We both went to work for a start up marine aquarium fish aquaculture business in Florida.

But she didn't grow up working in a LFS like I did... so she's not so much into the aquariums.

I've moved on to join the dark side... went back to get an MBA and she got her MSc in molecular bio. She went on to do "real science" (oooo.... says I). She's been working on genetics of diseases from cancer proteins to diabetes.

I'm now just a corporate peon who used to know quite a bit about fish. No, she doesn't have a Canreef account and wonders what I'm doing on here all the time... and gives me a hard time every time a fish dies and I buy another one.

reefwars 02-22-2014 10:48 PM

she wont touch the skimmer cup....understood i guess as i wont touch the puppy poop lol

what scares me most is shes now in the buying coral mood......this is gonna be rough:P

Reef Pilot 02-22-2014 11:06 PM

Yeah, my wife tolerates my reef tank..., has to,... haha,... as it is right in the middle of her kitchen.

Not only does my gf tolerate it, she has a tank of her own and is on canreef as well. But it can cause problems from time to time over who gets what

canadianbudz604 02-22-2014 11:21 PM

Good

Good to see some peoples gf/wife likes it because mine wants the tank gone and doesn't want to hear one word about fish in anyway. I detect jealousy

carnut 02-23-2014 12:20 AM

his and hers tanks One sps and one softies. She cleans her own skimmer and glass just need help with dosing and water changes. She has a 260, just not into the boards or reading, i'm the walking dictionary.

2 macnas and a third this year.

kien 02-23-2014 01:24 AM

When we walk into a LFS my wife be like "hold the baby, I got this"

spit.fire 02-23-2014 06:33 AM

Display tank is my wife's, sump and frag tank are mine

All the work is also mine although she does do water changes if I mix the salt

Madreefer 02-23-2014 08:40 AM

My wife has no interest. But when I run in to her clients around town they all say "your wife showed me pics of your fish tank on her cell phone and it looks so cool". I did'nt even know she had taken pics of it. So I guess she likes it.

Wretch 02-23-2014 08:44 AM

I am just starting my tank and the wife doesn't have anything to do with maintenance or what not. She has decided though that she wants to be apart of my hobby. Her contribution will be tank design including coral selection, colour choice and coral placement. I have already failed her with my first 4 frags purchase. She loved the hammer, only mildly disliked the green palys and magicians, hated the colours of sunny d's. Apparently they didn't fit her design plan. She might come to the frag swap to make sure I don't make any more bad decisions. Although that might lead to more coral purchases

halwake 02-23-2014 06:22 PM

I get a lot of "uh huh..." Every time I give her an update on what going on with the tank. She seems to like the tank, not the constant updates.

neoh 02-24-2014 01:47 AM

yeah, she's stoked about it, too. Not quite the same as she doesn't really do her tank chores, but - she loves the LFS visits as much as I do.

Haha, does he adjust your herbie?

Kait 02-24-2014 03:47 AM

I have always loved having fish, but was always worried about how hard it was to have a sw tank. But after meeting my boyfriend, he made it seem easy. So now we have his 90g at his place and my 50g at mine... Both very different. One of the best things is the surprise knock at the door with a new salty friend. He usually brings me corals, and I usually bring him invertebrates. The two of us can do some damage at the LFS.
