LF: reasonably priced clean up crew Calgary

Anyone know where I can get something similar to one of the following crews that isnot going to be $500 to $600 or more in Calgary, or do I have to take my chances with an online order in winter?

10 to 20 Blue Legged Hermits
5 to 10 Red Scarlet Hermits

30 to 50 Dwarf Ceriths
5 to 10 Margarita Snails
5 to 10 Cerith Snails
5 to 10 Nassarius Snails
5 to 10 Astrea Snails
5 to 10 Medium Nerites Snails

1 Sally Lightfoot Crab or Fighting Conch
1 Arrow Crab
2 Emerald Crab

1 to 3 Peppermint Shrimp
1 Coral Banded Shrimp

You might wanna ditch the hermits; atleast the blue legged ones. And if you really want hermits, you can go for dwarf zebras; much well mannered. Just my 2 cents :)

You should be able to score some of those in the list from LFS for cheap prices. You will just have to go around to see who got what at lower price.

Appreciate the suggestion on the hermits, I know they eat the snails, was just hoping the snails would outbreed them ;)

I tried the lfs, the big two came back at 4 times the price of online on each item ...

Well my hermits fought with each other and bugged my corals by moving over them, particularly the zoas :P But yah they are great scavengers.

Yah it will be higher in price than buying from online but you will also have to consider the shipping cost + the risk of shipping with all the fun loving snow flowing around :D

Charles, if you're not in a huge hurry, I'll be putting in a big CUC order with j&l once my 24 gallon is cycled. I need around 50 dwarf ceriths and 30 nassarius. It will be a few weeks yet, though. We could combine orders and save a bit on shipping. J&L ships via airline.

SoloSK71 10-26-2012 07:38 PM

Late November or so at least, yeah ... that would be good to share shipping ... I have a dry goods order I am placing with them for ~$200 or so as well so getting free shipping there ...

I need some cleanup crew as well. I'd be willing to join your order.

Enigma 10-27-2012 12:12 AM

Excellent! It is 100% guaranteed that I'll be placing an order, as I need CUC for at least two tanks . . . And there is no way i'm going to pay $3 a snail. I'll let both of you know when my contest tank is cycled and I'm ready. I live very close to the airport, too.

Is there anyway I could get in on this? I need some live from J and L as well, if you guys don't mind.

I'd be willing to jump on boat too for some CUC. Let me know then.

Just posting J&L's group buy policy:

Quote:

J&L Aquatics encourages group orders for either livestock or equipment. In many instances (especially with livestock) it can save you a fair amount of money on shipping alone. In order to expedite this process and eliminate any confusion, please follow these simple guidelines listed below.
  • One Ambassador needs to be assigned per group order. The ambassador is required to coordinate ordering between the group and J&L. We will work closely with the ambassador to ensure the items requested are on hold and accurately billed.
  • An Order List, which contains the entire contents of the order separated by person involved, will be provided to J&L near the end of the group order Cut off period. Contact information (actual name and phone number) of each person listed is also required. No bulletin board handles will be accepted.
  • A Cut Off Period needs to be assigned by the ambassador at the outset of the group order, and no additions or changes may be made past this point. The Cut off period is generally the business day before the order is scheduled to be shipped.
  • It is completely encouraged for the participants to call in on their own and check availability and stock; but, they won't be able to order or hold anything on their own. They must report their items to the ambassador.
  • The group ambassador is responsible for all order/shipping charges.

I perfectly happy to spearhead this when the time comes, but, with more people comes more expense. If you look at the last point, if the order is really large, I may need to be paid by the individuals in the group to pay J&L for the order. I'm sure everyone understands. I know two notaries, so I can draw something up and have it notarized, and provide everyone with a copy, if anyone is nervous.

I'll call J&L next week to get the particulars with regards to what days of the week they'll ship air cargo, if we could arrange to have the livestock arrive on an evening flight, etc.

I would ideally like to have my CUC for December 1st, which is the livestock addition date for the nano contest.

Oh, to ensure that this stays manageable, how about we cut this off here?

Between the five of us we should be able to come close to the cheapest shipping ($30), keep the order manageable, and hopefully ensure enough/correct stock for everyone.

Enigma 10-27-2012 01:38 PM

Oh, I'll ask about how the volume discounts work, too: if the price breaks on CUC would be for the individual person or for the order as a whole.

Looking at your stocking list on a 25G I am thinking I may have gone too light ... I updated the list and will continue to do some research.

I'm using dry rock, which is a bit like adding a phosphate bomb to the tank. I'm expecting an abundance of GHA. Also, while ceriths are great snails, they aren't really voracious eaters and are kind of slow. Twenty might be alright for that tank, but I may need to move some of my starry astrea over to it from my 40B. My 40B has been through its awkard green stage, so the thirty I'll be adding to that might be a bit much. It is always a bit of a guessing game. I'll probably need to move some of the nass from the 24 to the 40.

Treebeard 10-31-2012 03:41 PM

Count me in too please.

Jackie 10-31-2012 03:47 PM

Me too

I am interested too if the pick up location is somewhere north in Calgary.

Treebeard 10-31-2012 03:50 PM

Sorry, I missed this post. Have you cut off any further orders?

I'll be corresponding with J&L tomorrow to clarify some details. We may be open it back up again for a couple more people.

Pick up will be in Huntington Hills. The order will arrive in the last week of November.

JDigital 10-31-2012 07:10 PM

I'd be interested as well.

Finnegan 11-03-2012 04:49 PM

I am in need of a crew as well. Please send a pm my way if you wouldn't mind adding another decent order as I have a 280 that's in need of live stock

Bigevul 11-11-2012 02:52 PM

Im interested as well, just wondering if this is closed or still open to get in on this order?
