Grizz's 8' shallow sea

So here it is 2010 and I said to the wife that I would not be looking to upgrade to a bigger tank for a while. Well that failed miserably as I have bought a new tank.

96"L x 22"W x 18"D, dual corner overflow's, sump & pump, plumbing & a huge a** UV Sterilizer 30W.

I have built a new stand that is going to be totally enclosed with 1/2" oak. Going with a 3/4" oak top with a 1/2" styro between the tank and oak topper.
Here is the stand:

I am also building a new sump for it out of acrylic

Yes you are right at 165 gal, with the sump design total water volume is going to be 223 gal's. The main display is only 10 gal bigger but the sump volume will be double the size of the one in the 155.

jimbo222 01-28-2010 05:13 AM

wow .. you werent kidding when you said you can build anything...nice job.
have to keep you in mind for my next stand upgrade:smile:

The Grizz 01-28-2010 05:26 AM

Stand looks great.....cant wait to how you set it all up.

The Grizz 01-29-2010 04:34 AM

Hope to get tank on the stand this weekend with the oak top & styro so I can start the plumbing. Acrylic on order for sump, pick up Monday. Will post some more pic's soon.

Rahim101 01-29-2010 04:37 AM

how much did the acrylic cost you?

The Grizz 01-29-2010 04:45 AM

With my design there is a total of 18 piece's and enough Weldon #4 to do the job for $220 + the good old gouge & screw tax.

the marine apprentice 01-29-2010 05:52 AM

just make sure you do it the right way the first time greg . lol

lobsterboy 01-29-2010 05:54 AM

The Grizz 02-07-2010 06:14 AM

Picked up acrylic last Monday, need to get stand top & styro hopefully tomorrow. Might start putting the sump together tomorrow as well.

Stand has been painted and ready to go.

the marine apprentice 02-07-2010 06:17 AM

I could take a couple pics of the pile of acrylic that I have to put together & a tank sitting on saw horses but that might be a little boring. I have been a little lazy about the build because I don't want to get to far ahead and not have any light's, still searching.

Yes I would build stands for anyone they dont have to live in Red Deer but maybe at least the same province unless they are coming to get it.

sleschwin 02-08-2010 12:36 AM

my word

Greg, If we dont get some serious product shots..........

Hows it all looking..

The Grizz 02-08-2010 12:43 AM

I will try to get something done on it tomorrow so that I have something to show. I thought maybe I would go for the record of the worlds longest tank build, lol. Maybe this time I might get at least a 1 star rating on this thread.

The Grizz 02-09-2010 01:42 AM

Ok you asked for more pics so here are a few.

Stand all painted and ready for oak surround. I hope to go get the finishing wood tomorrow.

Started building my acrylic sump today. It is not as easy as it should look but I found a trick to it. Got the 2 ends and the front panel attached today and have figured out the rest of the layout. Hope to get some more of it together tomorrow.

the marine apprentice 02-09-2010 01:49 AM

right on greg. ill come out tomorrow night and help out with that sump. im gonna try to bring out that big acrylic tank setup i got under my deck at the house and we can build some stuff haha

The Grizz 02-12-2010 03:24 AM

Sump is almost done, water test tomorrow. Tank is on the stand with 3/4" birch and 1/2" styro underneith. 1/2" plywood on the bottom shelf now just have to get styro cut for under the sump. Pic will be added as soon as Terry get's conected back to the net. Next step is the plumbing.

Chase31 02-12-2010 03:27 AM
