Reef Pack in a 6 gallon. (8 months in)

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps8c4f5295.jpg

I'm really kicking myself in the foot. I wish I started a journal on how my tank got to where it is. oh well, we're here now!

Started off with a fluval edge tank my friend was going to throw away, I wanted a bit of a challenge to keep. Everyone who I know, who owns a Reef tank, says nano tanks are a bit of a challenge to maintain.

I do 15-20% water change every 5 days, and feed every other day. Check my parameters before and after I do my water change. pretty simple...

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps37ce2c53.jpg

Equipments:
6 Gallon Fluval Edge
Current USA Marine Orbit Nano LED light
240gph koralia
AquaClear 20 HOB
50w Heater
7lbs of live rock
10 lbs of live sand

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps5cf05d2a.jpg

Live Stock:
2 Perc Clowns
1 peppermint shrimp
1 emerald crab
2 blue legged hermit crabs
2 Ceriths snails
2 Nerites snails

Seems a lot in a 6 gallon, but It's been running for 8 months now, and no casualties, I'm happy about it.

on to the addicting stuff...
Corals:
Neon green star polyp
Pom Pom Xenia
Purple Goni Coral
Yellow Ricordea mushroom
Zoas
Aussie Duncan coral
Emerald Green torch coral
Bicolor Hammer coral
Frogspawn coral
Red Bulb tip Anemone
Green Bulb tip Anemone (a friend was letting me look after it when his tank nuked, but he never set his tank back up, now I'm stuck with two...

Believe it or not, All my corals I have received off CanReef members! Thanks!

I really wish I had a fancy camera to capture how beautiful it is, but an iPhone will do.

Corals and fish are all happy. Reef Packed, now just keeping in an eye on that RBTA for its to split soon (one way or another..) will report back in a month on how its doing! In the mean time, I'm already looking for a 125g... this is how it starts right...? :multi::multi::multi:

Thanks man! the LED light is pretty good for that tank, no dark spots. best bang for its buck in my opinion!

That is a really nice looking nano. I've never been a big fan of the Edge tanks but your setup is making me reconsider that opinion.

Good work.

Anthony

Thanks! yeah the opening on the Edge is a pain for clean up, but doesn't outweigh its beauty in my opinion, just as long as my rock scape isn't towering, I have enough room to do my clean up

Goniopora

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps8b81ffaf.jpg

Past couple days, I've notice my Goni has been acting up, white slime and the flesh on the back of it was pulling away from the skeleton. it was just one polyp, now its over ten polyps. For sure I thought it was a goner.

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps0f989815.jpg

Now here's the cool part, I came home last night after working a graveyard shift, and went to my tank with lights out, and I seen a smaller Goniopora on it!! Can they give birth or even bud!? anyways, the "baby" was on the skeleton side of the mother. I should've took a picture but I said I would wait until the morning.

Morning came, and the mother has bloomed fully again, the baby is now underneath the mother.

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps6677ac49.jpg

Tell me I'm not seeing things, and that is in fact a baby? (cool)

Remove

That appears to be a goniopora eating nudibranch. Better pics to be certain

Good job with the edge though

Damn. I think you are right. When I get home, I'm going to remove it with tweezers. Post pictures later

Thanks

Sharkbait-huhaha 12-20-2014 06:02 PM

I removed it but the nudibranch did not stay in one piece. Oh well. No pictures and he's out. Hopefully my Goni can recover

Beautiful little tank!

What do you have running in the aquaclear for media?

How much/often do you do water changes?

Do you get much Evaporation? ATO. Or so weekly water changes cover it?

I'm just getting my edge all set up :)

The aquaclear media is just running on the stock items (sponge, carbon, biomax) but keep an eye on my thread; In the new years, I'm going to try to do a DIY refugium in that aquaclear20

Since I feel my tank is packed, instead of doing water changes every 7 days, I do my water change every 5 days.

I like filling my tank all the way to the lip of the aquaclear filter because it gives that infinity look on top (no bubbles). I top it off with RODI every other day, about a half cup. pretty simple!

good luck with your edge! can't wait to see more of it.

That's ally of evaporation! I don't think I have had that much in mine but I have a chunk of acrylic across the top right now I just have free floss In it but bought some chemipure-blue to try once I add fish.

Mom Curious to see how the mini fuge works for you

GBTA Propagation Time Lapse

My GBTA decided to move! And I decided to experiment with it.

Propagation! I just research it and followed some simple steps. Turned out great! I also did a small time lapse video. check it out

Cool video!

Have you had any issues with frogspawn/hammer stinging anything?

What coral is this one?

That looks like an Australian Duncan to me. Very similar to the one I have in my tank.

Your edge looks great.

He is right, that is an Aussie Duncan.

My friend actually picked it up for me. He grabbed it off a fellow member, Boomboom.

Sharkbait-huhaha 12-29-2014 12:34 AM

Sorry Shiftline, After seeing your porcelain, I had to get one! Although it favors the frogspawn more than the RBTA. lol

Update on propagation GBTA

I believe it's been a week now. Both nem has now closed up and looking spectaclur. They are both moving around the tank and eating mysis shrimp now. I'm going to keep an eye on it for another week and then post it for trade on CanReef!

How do you like the Aussie Duncan? Would you recommend it for a small tank.? I'm debating one

Slyguy00 01-03-2015 02:37 AM

Duncans are easy to look after and are pretty sweet. You can easily add to small tank. Beauty of LPS

Sharkbait-huhaha 01-03-2015 05:47 AM

^ +1

i just feed it Reefroids, always blooms and a beauty to look at it

shiftline 01-11-2015 05:31 PM

I sure did find one ;)
